There is no way that the D’Backs trade Hudson for just Heilman. It’d take one of our prospects (Probably a pitcher) and Heilman at the bare minimum.

    • Mets Genius says:

      Orland Hudson is GARBAGE!!!!

GOTAY ALL THE WAY!!! Then sign Barry Bonds in place of Castillo’s roster spot.

      1)SS – Jose Reyes
      2)2B – Ruben Gotay
      3)3B – David Wright
      4)CF – Carlos Beltran
      5)LF – Moises Alou
      6)1B – Carlos Delgado
      7)RF – Lastings Milledge
      8)C – Paul Lo Duca

Ramon Castro, BARRY BONDS, Damien Easley, Endy Chavez, Marlon Anderson

Johan Santana, Pedro Martinez, Oliver Perez, El Duque, Mark Prior

Billy Wagner, Eric Gagne, Aaron Heilman, Pedro Feliciano, Duaner Sanchez, Scott Schoewenweis, Chris Capuano

MINOR LEAGUE RE-INFORCEMENT – Mike Pelfrey, Phil Humber, Ben Johnson, Eddie Kunz, Joe Smith, Ambiorex Burgos, Dave Newhan, Will Collazo, Taylor Teagarden, Joaquin Arias.

Use Kevin Mulvey and John Niese to trade for Teagarden and Arias. Dynasty is back on track.

      • mrosey says:

        Dude. No, just no.

        • Mets Genius says:

          Uhhhhhhhhh, DUDE…Yeah, JUST YEAH.

        • jose--jose-jose-jose says:

Ahem, Mr. Genius, that makes absolutely no sense at all. You are just crazy.

        • Mets Genius says:

Gotay, Easley, and Anderson play Second base with Gotay given the chance to play everyday first….Bonds plays Left, Alou in Right with Milledge and Endy getting plenty of playing time. Marlon and Easley can snag a game here and there in the Outfield too…what doesn’t make sense stupid? Castillo’s roster spot goes to Bonds…you can’t figure out what to do from there? Who is this, Willie Randolph?

        • TilMetsDoUsPart says:

You’re username is a great example of irony.

      • zen says:

        “Dynasty is back on track.”

      • Mets Genius says:

Throw in Corey Coles to Texas too.

      • TilMetsDoUsPart says:

WHERE DID WE GET ALL OF THESE PLAYERS????

      • TilMetsDoUsPart says:

How in the world would we have Capuano, Santana, Pelfrey, Humber, Milledge and Heilman all at the same time?

  2. poorboy says:

    where’s the dwright option…..or polanco?

  3. Speed says:

    Free Gotay!

Platoon him with the “Hitman” cause he can’t hit a lick against lefties.

  4. napes22 says:

Why would we give up a key player in a struggling bullpen? I’m suprised so many people would give up Heilman for Hudson. It would take more than that to get Hudson, and honestly, I’d rather get a starter or a real releiver in a deal for heilman. You know, one with more than 2 pitches.

    • BigHangWithEm says:

I don’t think the price tag on Hudson should be too high. He’s a FA after 2008 and the D-backs probably don’t intend to sign him to a big contract as they will likely save their money to sign all their youngsters long-term as they get closer to being arbitration eligible. I could see Arizona being intrigued by the notion of placing Heilman in their rotation which has a few holes to fill. Maybe Heilman alone isn’t enough, but I don’t think they would ask for much more than Heilman and a low level prospect or cash

  5. zen says:

the mets are not in a position to trade pitching for a position player. that would be beyond foolish.

    • gomets2008 says:

AMEN!!! bring back louie C……or let Gotay get it done..I like Gotay….but I say if this is possible??get on the phone w/Baltimore..make a Roberts/Bedard deal happen??? Gotay/Humber/Guerva/Gomez/Mulvey……still keep Millz and Pelf.

      Reyes
      Roberts
      Wright
      Beltran
      Delgado
      Alou
      LoDuca
      Millz

      niiiiiice

      Pedro
      Bedard
      Maine
      OP
      Silve/Lohse/Pelf/Duque????

      • FBones24 says:

I think this actually makes sense. I like this idea. I like Roberts as a player. He plays hard, hustles, has a little pop, speed and I think he would fit in with this clubhouse. I also think Bedard is awesome and really going to come into his own.

I would rather just let Pelfry take the 5th spot before signing Lohse or Silva. if we can’t get a front line starter, I wouldn’t waste my time with these guys.

      • TilMetsDoUsPart says:

Well, it certainly is outside of the box…

      • TilMetsDoUsPart says:

You’re basically offering Baltimore a bag of players that have the potential to be borderline starting players, a middle of the rotation prospect, and a player that will make his debut in 2 years.

        Well, Duquette might do it!

  6. mrosey says:

    What about Tadahito Iguchi?

    • robmenna says:

Trade Delgado for Hudson. Sign Arod. Put Wright at first.

      • ReyesRocks says:

        WTF?

That trade wouldn’t even work on one of your Playstation games, unless you turned “Free Trade” off!

      • TilMetsDoUsPart says:

Yeah. Delgado for Hudson. The D’Backs have now thrown any consideration of Conor Jackson away, for their new savior, aging Puerto Rican, Carlos Delgado.

    • toomanyuniforms says:

I like Iguchi a lot, but he turned it on for the Phils in a hitters’ park after having taken a step back for the White Sox. I’d think about it were the price right, but I’d prioritize Eckstein and Castillo.

  7. BlueandOrangeTears says:

I think the Mets should only trade for pitching. Our holes in the outfield and 2nd base can be adequately filled through free agency. Save the trade bait for our real needs.

That said. Resign Lou Castle. He did a good job this year and should be better with healthy knees. He plays solid defense and fits in the 2 hole. Get him back. If it ain’t broke…

  8. Blue_n_Orange says:

Another, much more appealing option in my opinion:

    (from Gotham Baseball via mlbtraderumors)

There are some rumblings that the Tigers are asking the Mets — given their interest in A-Rod — if they have any plans to deal Carlos Delgado, because if they do, seems that they would offer the Mets Placido Polanco or Carlos Guillen to play 2B in return.

This is an exploratory thing, but interesting nonetheless…as it may be an indicator if the A-Rod chase is real.

My two cents, I really like Guillen, but I think they’d rather keep him, even though he’s only played 12 games or so in his career as a 2B….Polanco is a better fit for NY’s needs, IMO.

The talks, I’m told, could expand to include a reliever as well.

    • zen says:

why in the world would the tigers trade either of those younger, better players for delgado (coming off a bad year including an injury at the end)?

gotham baseball just makes things up.

      • Blue_n_Orange says:

They’re pretty accurate when it comes to the Tigers. Apparently Mark Healy has a reliable source from within the organization. That doesn’t mean I’m somewhat skeptical, but I thought it would be worth bringing up since we’re exploring possible scenarios at 2nd. I can certainly see this working, especially if Heilman is involved. Here’s the link:

        http://gothambaseballmagazine.com/forums/index.php?topic=422.0

        • Andrew says:

If by “pretty accurate” you mean “invariably wrong,” then yes. They’re “pretty accurate.” As in they’re wrong literally all the time.

        • Blue_n_Orange says:

Okay Andrew. Fine they’re “always wrong.” Are you a happy now champ? Good job.

They’re ALL RUMORS!!! Nobody is going to deliver the accuracy you seem to demand. If they were proven to be accurate then they wouldn’t be considered speculation now would they.

        • Andrew says:

No, man, it would be cool if Gotham Baseball was right just once, ever. That’s kind of an expectation for people who are supposed to be leaking rumors about trades. To have some credibility, they have to be right about at least one trade, ever. But Mark Healy of Gotham Baseball has been posting wild rumors with only the vaguest grain of truth behind them for years now, and it’s been painful to read about all these great-sounding trade rumors that are obviously not based in reality.

    • Mets Genius says:

Carlos Guillen and Joel Zumaya for Delgado…if we sign a-rod…it’s good. I don’t wanna see Polanco and Rodney for Delgado. I like Polanco, but Guillen replaces Delgado’s clutch factor. I want Zumaya. I’m happy with Delgado though, and I don’t want to trade him.

      • ravi3 says:

I dunno about the Zumaya part…sure he is hurt, but you are essentially making Joel a throw-in here. I do like the principles of the trade here…I wouldn’t mind moving Delgado either way. I’m not sure abotu moving Polanco, becuase I would like to see the 2b situation resolved by the time ARod signs a contract….I wouldn’t mind Guillen

        • Mets Genius says:

Zumaya’s injury has proven him to be injury prone in his short career….he’s not a “throw-in”, but he’s not at peak value either. Carlos Delgado is capable of driving in 120 RBI. Guillen and Zumaya for Delgado or forget it. I’d rather keep Delgado anyway. He hit what, .349 in the Post season for us? He’s clutch. Clutch wins.

      • TilMetsDoUsPart says:

Oh yeah. The Tigers are going wild to see their 20 HR, .300 AVG infielder and their fireballing right hander leave for some old washed up first baseman.

    • TilMetsDoUsPart says:

It’s too early in the year to tell if the Mets should make the trade.

What if their offer for A-rod is topped? That leaves a gaping hole at first base.

If there was no competition for A-rod, and he significantly lowered his price, the Mets would do it in a heartbeat, however that is not reality.

  9. narcyfour says:

I am shocked at the lack of interest in signing Eckstein for second base. He is,in my opinion, a wonderful baseball player. Not to mention, the exact blue collar little gnat with fire that this overpaid and bored team needs.

    He is a baseball player.

    • NYMBosco says:

I agree. Eckstein is a wonderful baseball player and he would be a nice infusion of energy on this bored team…….very lenny dykstra like

    • toomanyuniforms says:

Dead on. I love Eckstein. We are not trying to find a cleanup hitter here. We’re trying to find a table setter and a guy who can turn the DP. I think the team is dying for the spark and professionalism, too. The only factor that gives me pause is the position switch, but it’s not as extreme as moving Wright around.

      • TilMetsDoUsPart says:

So essentially we are looking for Luis Castillo without having to change his position.

        • Slob says:

It is absolutely astounding to me that anyone would want David Eckstein as a starter on their team. The guy has no power, doesn’t walk, doesn’t steal, his OBP is pedestrian at best, and his SLG is pathetic. All the talk about “spark” and “professionalism” and “energy” and “blue collar” is nonsense. Put better baseball players on the field and your team will win more games.

    • dwrightswingman says:

      luis castillo: Professional hoola hooper
      Orlando Hudson: Shark diver
      Little eckstein: Baseball Player.

http://www.firejoemorgan.com does a pretty job removing any false perceptions about eckstein as a baseball player.

  10. Protes says:

Heilman for Hudson? That would be a steal for us.

  11. Andrew says:

Eckstein…. I hate Eckstein.. Castillo is VASTLY overrated. He no longer plays the great defense that he gets credit for. Keep Gotay, play Gotay; a Gotay/Easley platoon will be fine, unless the Tigers for some reason decide to be really stupid and trade us Polanco or Guillen (I would prefer Guillen) for Delgado.

  12. therealsince86 says:

Smoking grass here with the polls. There is no way that Heilman alone would get Hudson. Now if you wanted to part with Humber and another decent prospect that MIGHT be enough.
That’s not even a realistic offer. Of course I would choose that but come on,

    • TilMetsDoUsPart says:

I think that you overvalue Hudson more than Matt overvalues Heilman…..

Heilman is a phenomenal setup man with potential to be a starter, in the eyes of other teams.

Hudson is a decent second baseman.

  13. mistermet says:

Option D…Sign Gotay in order to “Save money?!!” Freddie Coupons has been doing this (saving money) for years- time to open up the wallets and act like a big market team and to have a payroll that is more than half of the Yankees’. The Mets revenue streams are unfathomably large with a new stadium, SNY, increased gate/ticket prices. No reason this team can’t have a payroll in the 150-160 million range if necessary. No reason at all. I’m tired of hearing this garbage about how the Mets can’t afford ARod…Hogwash! They can afford 5 ARods- it’s just a matter of whether Freddie Coupons is willing to SPEND for once…the team payroll has not gone up significantly in 4-5 years, including in 2005 when they signed Martinez/Beltran, etc….the Mets made us all think they were big spenders with those signings but in reality the books did not change…The payroll was not (and has not) been significantly increased over the last 4-5 years…it’s been right around 105-115 million. Joke.

    • 4JoeOrsulak says:

That’s either the 3rd or 5th highest in the league, depending on how you count it.

No joke sir. Go root for the Yankees if you want to think like that,

  14. Cactus says:

    Trade for Tejada

    • Andrew says:

Yes, let’s trade for Tejada and switch him to 2B. Then after that we can lure Ted Williams out of retirement to platoon with Alou in left field.

  15. 4JoeOrsulak says:

Wow. Mets fans overrate Castillo spectacularly. Folks, this guy is not a great 2nd baseman. That’s why we almost got him for nothing.

  16. steve333 says:

Castillo is getting older and is a troublemaker and partier-bad influence on Reyes.
Eckstein is a hustle player and a good clubhouse presence-I say go after Eckstein.
