According to the New York Post, the Yankees will make a new three-year, $40 million contract offer to free-agent C Jorge Posada tomorrow.
…all signs continue to suggest posada wants a fourth year…and so, as i keep saying, it only makes sense that he will use the open market, i.e., the Mets, to bump up the Yankees offer, which he’ll most likely accept…

Hopefully the Yanks blink, and up the deal to 4/52 to get Posada locked up before the open market hits.
I don’t want to take any chances that Omar does something stupid with him.
Does he really think he car get much better than the Yanks have offered? Or does he just want to leave, but doesn’t have the brass to say it?
OK, I know that he can’t publicly state that he won’t go back tot he Stankees, since that kills his value. But if that is what he is doing, don’t let the Mets be the dupes that help him out!
I want him back in Yankeeland. The more decrepit old guys with albatross contracts they have, the better!
Oh, and I wonder if the Yankees are actually trying to clear out the old regime (players, to go with Torre), without actually saying they are doing it?
They could easily pull an A Rod with Posada. make him a reasonable offer, and when he turns his nose up at it, tell him to have a nice life and enjoy playing elsewhere.
Don’t think they do it with Rivera too, but who knows?
As much as we all hate them, the management of the team isn’t really dumb. They know when guys are on the downhill slide as well as anyone else. They just seem to have an image problem (they are the Yankees, after all, and the Ynakees can’t go with young guys, right?)
If anything, the “glory days” of ‘96-2000 is hanging over their heads. They seem to worry about upsetting the fans by getting rid of the remaining links to the good old days.
Just wait until they have to make the same call on Jeter, the dude with worse PS numbers recently than A Rod!
I’m confused… I thought they already offerered him a 3 year $40 MM contract?
Maybe under different terms, or to show just how firm they are…?
I hope they sign him. I think he’s a terrific player, and I don’t mind the fact that he is a yankee, but four years for a 38 year old catcher in the NL is just crazy. And I didn’t even mention the money.
…oh yea, and by “they” I mean the Yankees.
Welcome back Paul.
if paulie only had an arm instead of a piazza-esque wet noodle. the rest of his game is solid.
don’t want no ex-yankees….nice passed ball there in game 2 against cleveland….scorers, they called it a WP…..Posada gets these all the time in big spots……And he doesn’t hit in post season any more; if he ever did.
Therefore, Omar will probably give him five.
I’m fine with LoDuca and Castro as our catchers. I hope we re-sign them both. Is Ramon Hernandez that much better that we need to trade one of our few trading chips we have on him? I don’t think so, especially if he not a huge upgrade over what we already have. Paulie was banged up a lot last year anyhow.
hernandez stinks. get a glove and an arm for behind the plate. forget Lo Puca and Posada and all those defensive liabilities. catcher’s don’t HAVE to be offensive machines. get an outfielder with some real pop and your lineup can live with a defensive catcher. your pitchers will thank you.
