The Associated Press reports the Yankees and free agent C Jorge Posada
have agreed on a four-year, $52 million deal.
According to Ken Rosenthal at FOXSports.com, citing ‘sources,’ Mets GM Omar Minaya and Ass’t GM Tony Bernazard met with Posada and his agents for roughly three hours yesterday.
Yesterday, Rosenthal wrote…
“The Mets are expected to re-sign Paul LoDuca if they fail to lure Jorge Posada from the Yankees.”
…added to by Matthew Cerrone…
…i certainly hope people do not look at posada re-signing with the Yankees as a failure for the Mets, who made him their ‘top priority,’ according to one report, but who, in reality, they never had a chance to sign, not even with a five-year deal i suspect…
…at any rate, i still have to imagine we’ll be put through the process of a few trade rumors and chit-chat about Yorvit Torrealba, but in the end i hope the Mets see the light and just bring back lo duca…

Tonight, at 6:30 pm, and again at 11 pm, SNY will air The Mets Hot Stove Report hosted by Kevin Burkhardt and featuring Darling, as well as guests David Wright and Jeff Wilpon.
Tagged SNY |Mets 3B David Wright, regarding his recent chat with Omar Minaya, while talking with reporters during a visit with kids at NYU Medical Center today…
“When I spoke to Omar, he told me, ‘Be prepared to be the third baseman in 2008.’ Alex Rodriguez‘s name did not come up at any point.”
…enjoy the left-coast, a-rod…i hope you’re very happy…
According to Phil Rogers of the Chicago Tribune, free agent RHP Carlos Silva is seeking a similar four-year, $40 million that Cubs LHP Ted Lilly signed last December.
Multiple reports have suggested Silva has received a three-year, $20 million deal to remain with the Twins.
The Mets, Cubs, Phillies and Mariners have all expressed interest in acquiring the 28-year old right hander.
…i’d be very interested in the Mets bringing silva aboard…silva more times than not has provided a quality start (20 of 33 last season) and although not a power pitcher, he does strikeout twice as many as he walks…the concern, as cerrone has noted before, silva does have a propensity to give up the long ball, roughly one per start, but with a move to the lighter-hitting nl and a bigger ballpark, such as shea, those numbers could greatly improve…
Silva was 13-14 with a 4.19 ERA in 33 starts for the Twins last season.
Rogers also reports on the shirking Alex Rodriguez market.

Of course, one week ago, during a recent appearance on SNY’s Daily News Live, Rosenthal told the show’s host that Lo Duca is as good as gone from the Mets.
Meanwhile, according to Peter Abraham, this morning at his blog for the Journal News, Posada wants to stay with the Yankees, though he will meet with the Mets today.
…jeez, whatever, just re-sign lo duca already…seriously…let’s go…i would much, much rather two or three years of lo duca over five years of posada, and i suspect i am not alone in this…
…as i have written before, i sense ownership and some coaches and players had soured on lo duca a bit, feeling that he was too negative during September, i.e., the team looked to him as an emotional leader, during which he was down and out and depressed - much like you and i, frankly…to me, he was probably just being honest, which is a big reason why so many fans like him, but i also understand how this can be abad thing…
…hopefully, the Mets realize posada is just using them, and that other free-agent options are a mistake, and that a guy like Ramon Hernandez is not necessary, and so lo duca has been and will be the best choice…
…thanks to asher s for the link…
Tagged Paul Lo Duca |Earlier today, Mets 3B David Wright appeared as a guest on WFAN’s morning show, and the had the following to regarding…
…Alex Rodriguez, and moving positions…
“Well, I’m extremely comfortable with winning. You know, if those guys thought that, whether it’s Alex or some other guy on the free agent market, and they said, ‘Hey, we think the team would be better by you doing this,’ then I would be open to sit down and talk about it. But, right now, my mind-set is that I need to get ready to be the 2008 third baseman for the Mets…
“With me, I’ve never once asked the organization to have to go through me to sign anybody…They don’t need my permission. My job description is to play. Omar has the tough job…My whole thing was, throughout this process, I’m a fan, I read the papers, I listen to the radio, but as far as making personnel decisions I’m not involved in that whatsoever…
…whether he’d prefer Rodriguez or a starting pitcher…
“We need some pitching, for sure. There’s no doubt about that…We’re gonna score runs if guys stay healthy, but we can never have enough pitching.”
…whether it is fact or myth that there is a disconnect between Willie Randolph and the Latino players on the team…
“We have a great clubhouse, we really do. It’s a special clubhouse, no matter what color you are, no matter what language you speak, we all go out to dinner together, Willie has complete control of that clubhouse…He’s respected as a winner, he puts his foot down when he has to and he also has an open door policy. He knows when to joke around, and he knows when to put the foot down. We have a great clubhouse, there’s no issue there…He’s an emotional leader, and a great leader for this team.”
…by the way, i was sent a lot of e-mail ripping my interview style with wright, from last week…i guess people had hoped i would ask a lot of these same questions that were addressed in this interview with WFAN…however, after reading wright’s response, i hope people understand why i stayed away from this line of questioning…wright is very disciplined when speaking with media, no matter who is speaking with him…so, i see no point in going down that road, which, by the way, is a road that has been pursued with wright over and over and over again during the past week or so in other media outlets…i mean, if you want to know what he thinks of a-rod, there are at least two or three other interviews during which he gave the same answer…
…what’s more, though, i have no interest in playing ‘gotcha,’ or digging for rhetoric…instead, and this pertains to every notable interview i do, my goal is to learn a bit about the person, about the lifestyle, learn about the day-to-day nuances of being in baseball, so that when i offer a future opinion of, say, wright, i have a clearer picture of what he’s about…this way, in future posts, i can offer up more than just fancy statistics and regurgitated ideas…in short, i use these interviews as a way to inform my writing and understanding of baseball…

Tagged Ron Darling |In a post to FOXSports.com, columnist Dayn Perry lists 10 Big Moves
that Need to Happen, including, “Johan Santana to the Mets,” of which he writes…
“Put him in the National League, where there’s no DH and the offenses aren’t nearly so strong, and he’ll likely dominate beyond his usual standards. That’s especially the case once you consider how tough a park Shea Stadium is for right-handed power hitters. Given Santana’s peerless skills and the demand for him on the market, it’ll take a lot to get him - say, a package of Fernando Martinez, Lastings Milledge and Philip Humber. Still, nabbing Santana means the Mets would be the power team in the NL.”
Of course, in a recent update for FOXSports.com, Ken Rosenthal told people to forget about the Mets acquiring Santana, “period,” adding, “Their top young pitchers aren’t as highly regarded as the Yankees. And the Twins presumably would want elite pitching back for Santana.”
…here’s the thing, people continue to cite the Yankees, but if they use their chips to get Miguel Cabrera from the Marlins, for instance, then the Yankees will be out of the bidding for santana…plus, their are other top-flight starting pitchers on the trade market, which could impact santana’s value as well…i’m not saying the Mets will be able to pull away santana with just fernando, milledge and humber, but it may not have to cost Jose Reyes as some have suggested, depending on how badly the Twins need to make a deal…
Red Sox 2B Dustin Pedroia and Brewers 3B Ryan Braun have been named MLB’s Rookies of the Year.
The Cubs have traded OF Jacque Jones and cash to the Tigers for infielder Omar Infante.
