Read: Santana, 10 Things that Need to Happen
In a post to FOXSports.com, columnist Dayn Perry lists 10 Big Moves
that Need to Happen, including, “Johan Santana to the Mets,” of which he writes…
“Put him in the National League, where there’s no DH and the offenses aren’t nearly so strong, and he’ll likely dominate beyond his usual standards. That’s especially the case once you consider how tough a park Shea Stadium is for right-handed power hitters. Given Santana’s peerless skills and the demand for him on the market, it’ll take a lot to get him - say, a package of Fernando Martinez, Lastings Milledge and Philip Humber. Still, nabbing Santana means the Mets would be the power team in the NL.”
Of course, in a recent update for FOXSports.com, Ken Rosenthal told people to forget about the Mets acquiring Santana, “period,” adding, “Their top young pitchers aren’t as highly regarded as the Yankees. And the Twins presumably would want elite pitching back for Santana.”
…here’s the thing, people continue to cite the Yankees, but if they use their chips to get Miguel Cabrera from the Marlins, for instance, then the Yankees will be out of the bidding for santana…plus, their are other top-flight starting pitchers on the trade market, which could impact santana’s value as well…i’m not saying the Mets will be able to pull away santana with just fernando, milledge and humber, but it may not have to cost Jose Reyes as some have suggested, depending on how badly the Twins need to make a deal…
