Buzz: Mets and Castro Closer to Deal
By Matthew Cerrone - Nov 13, 2007 9:40 pm

According to the Associated Press, citing ‘two people familiar with the negotiations,’ the Mets and Ramon Castro are close to agreeing on a two-year contract, which ‘could be completed sometime soon.’

as i mentioned this morning, the deal is believed to be roughly $2 million per season…and i’m glad…as long as he can stay healthy during August and September, which has been a problem for ramon during the last two seasons…

this is big… Get Ramon back

What if….. the mets plan on signing Ramon Castro as their eveyrday catcher? Possible?

I am with Matt…… Torrealba? what’s so great about him? He has terrible offensive numbers AT COORS FIELD!!!

  3. longtimesufferingmetsfan says:

yes. get him and back and let that punk loduca, who is awful calling a game, walk

  4. falcon4e says:

Let LoDuca walk. Agree. Yorvit is YOUNGER than LoDuca and LoDUCA only figures to regress further. Maybe they can sprinkle in a little Yorvit and a little Castro and they could get some good catcher production.

HOORAY!!!! Its so simple but such a good idea, so stop fooling around with Torrealba Omar!!

I’m in a minority when I say this, but forget Castro. He’s proven incapable of being healthy all season for 3 years. Get a healthy, defensive minded back up like Jose Molina.

  7. Ken Dynamo says:

4 mil for 2 years castro? no brainer. its nothing to commit that for their payroll and if he turns into a real starter than they should be able to sign him or at worst, get some draft picks out of him.

  8. BiggieSmalls says:

Im suspicious that Omar going the cheap defensive route at C means he’s saving his budget for something bigger..

  9. stickguy says:

Castro makes sense, no matter who he goes after to be the starter (or other half of a platoon). Hey, you need a back up C, right? Don’t want to see ALomar again!

Mets reportedly set to acquire P Dan Haren from Athletics in exchange for OF Lastings Milledge, P Kevin Mulvey, and a player to be named
