Great! So who’s the big name out there this year? Anyone know? :)

  2. m00kie says:

    lol ..

I think Armando Benitez is available. Get it done Omar!!

  3. napes22 says:

I heard Desi Relaford came out of retirement. We need a pitcher.

  4. Peaches says:

    Has Jesse Orosco retired?

    Top three guys to sign:
    1 – Silva
    2 – Castro
    3 – Fukudome

Top three guys to trade for
    1 – Cabrera
    2 – Blanton
    3 – Laird

    Top two guys to avoid
    1 – Livan
    2 – ARod

    • MealTicket says:

Jeez, Peaches, you and I are the only ones who want to talk actual baseball this morning, rather than show off our deep knowledge of Mets (real & imagined) from the past.

What about second base? I trust that if any deal can be made for O-Dog, Omar is exploring it. The D-bax have depth at second, so we may have a motivated seller on the line.

I’m guessing that a deal for Kelly Shoppach ain’t happening.

      • Peaches says:

Laird = Shoppach. I’m good either way. castro gets the most nods (90-100 games), these guys get a year to mature in the Castro role

Castillo bothers me for his lack of pop. Very hard for a runner to score on a single by Castillo, because they play very shallow against him. He doesn’t have SF power either. I’d prefer Gotay/Easly at 2B, but would fault Omar signing Castillo for his defense and speed.

Miguel Cabrera will hit his weight. A bit of Manny in him. Youn can’t ignore his bat. I want him on my team more than anyone else

  6. JSC1968 says:

    You guys are hilarious!!!

  7. dk70 says:

    Sid Finch anyone? 115MPH heat

  8. bonatom says:

I’m already getting upset…. i have feeling this is going to be the same team as ‘07… and we all know how well that worked out

  9. tfc3rid says:

Rumor has it that Johnny Estrada will be non-tendered by the Brewers… If this happens, I would seriously consider him.

  10. The Second Spitter says:

If I’m Omar, here’s what I’m suggesting to ownership.

    Free Agency:

    1) Alex Rodriguez – 10 years, 225 Million (Boras may want 300, but that doesn’t mean he gets it. I don’t see a GM telling their ownership that $300M is an option after the beating Tom Hicks took in Texas. ) Wright moves to first base.

    2) Sign Eric Gagne and Scott Linebrink to 2 or 3 year contracts. (These moves, to me, would help sure up our bullpen, and make Heilman expendable in a trade.)

    3) Resign Paul LoDuca and Ramon Castro – I like the tandem, but I’d like to see Castro getting more time, especially with LoDuca getting older.

    4) Sign Livan to a 1 year, 4M deal.

    5) AVOID – Silva, Fukudome

    6) Release Mota and Schoenweis. Good Publicity move (steroids), and baseball move… bad financial move.

    Trades:

    1) Pelfrey, Humber, Heilman, Milledge, FMart for Santana. Now, I know come think it’s a lot. But, truly, I don’t see it as such. Pelfrey and Humber will never be more than a #5 starter or middle relief. Heilman’s versatility can add to his value. Corner outfielders with Milledges skill set aren’t hard to find, or trade for. (See Xavier Nady… and how hyped he was coming into San Diego) The major chip here is a 19 year old OF.

Who cares about homegrown talent if that talent can’t win you a championship.

    2) Trade Delgado and Carp to LA for Chone Figgins. Second Base… Solved for years to come, Wright takes over at first. LA gets the bat they covet to protect Vlad.

    Here’s what we could envision.

    Reyes – SS
    Figgons – 2B
    Wright – 1B
    ARod – 3B
    Beltran – CF
    Alou – LF
    LoDuca – C
    Gomez/Chavez – RF
    P

    Santana
    Pedro
    Maine
    Perez
    Livan

    El Duque
    Joe Smith
    Feliciano
    D. Sanchez
    E. Gagne
    S. Linebrink
    B. Wagner

Truly, I don’t know why I wasted all this time typing this. None of it’s gonna happen… but, oh well, that’s the Metsblog slogan. 1 team, 1,000,000 GM’s.

    • Peaches says:

1 – ARod will never sign for 22.5 per year
      3 – I don’t see Paulie taking a cut in PT
4 – Livan will want 3/24 at a minimum. He’s got a rubber arm and will help a few teams. The ERA is too high for me
5 – Silva is younger than Livan, and should be a few years away from where Livan is now – declining. Fukudome will help someone a lot. Just a predicition
6 – Mota? dump him. Shoeny has two years left. he might be salvagable
      Trades
1 – I want a negotiating window if I’m giving up that much
2 – I assume they will want us to add cash. Carp has hit the skids. We’d be selling low on him

    • Hit The Weights Zeile says:

do we really want gagne after seeing what he did in boston, hes just a canadian guillermo mota.

    • KFS says:

I’d re-think that Santana trade if I were you. It’s essentially a 1-year rental and we’re giving up too much for that. Santana, unless overwhelmed with a extension offer (7 years at $25 mil per – maybe), he’ll opt for FA after the year give that Silva is going to get $10 mil per.

As for ARod, I’ll take 7 years at $200 mil but he’s playing 1st, not 3rd. We already have a gold glover at 3rd!

  11. stickguy says:

Well, that last list pretty much guarantees the team is clog up for years to come with albatross contracts to broken down stiffs, and no help on the farm!

I am starting to come around on the idea of getting the best players, even if it isn’t at a position of need, and trading a ML guy (instead of just prospects). I love Maine, but if you could trade Of for P, and Maine for a C and 2B, and sign an OF, overall you could be better.

I really hope Omar makes some shrewd moves Trading for a young catcher, moving Delgado for a young 2B, stuff like this to revamp the team, making it better in 2008, and giving a bright future.

I’m not that concerned with the pitching, if they can add 1 respectable SP to go with what they have, and some pen improvements.

I don’t want Castillo and Loduca back to watch them continue to slide downhill. maybe Loduca for 1 year if there really aren’t any other options.

2B there are pelnty of options, even in house, so Castillo we can live without.

  12. poorboy says:

    somebody wake up omar

  13. edwindrewes says:

    No Castillo
    One Year for Loduca
Trade for another ace who wont cost you as much as johan, by giving up Pelfrey and Gomez and Joe Smith
Trade for Miggy Cabrera to play first….Send the Marlins Delgado, Heilman, and Milledge for him…
