I might be wrong here, but I don't believe we get the Braves first round pick because our record was in the top 15 of MLB teams. We get the second round pick plus a sandwich round pick. We could only get the third round pick if the Braves sign another free agent whom is rated higher than Glavine by the Elias Bureau. Look what happened with Chad Bradford and Roberto Hernandez who were both Type A Free Agents. We had no first round picks at all this year.

I missed something - what exactly have Delgado, Glavine, and Mota done to be lumped in with Vince Coleman (pushing his manager, parking lot hijinks), Bret Saberhagen (threw bleach on a reporter) and Bobby Bonilla (called press box to get a scorer's call changed, physically threatened Bob Klapisch)??

The mets would be stupid not to offer arbitration before Dec 1. Glavine is committed to being a Brave and would certainly decline it. Our farm system is somewhat mediocre and a few years away from blossoming. That 18th pick can get us a Joba, Buckholz or a Kazmir. I'm hoping that we can get an prospect soon to be ace in our farm.

Look...it is just good business to offer him arbitration and demand the pick is returned to us if he bolts. I don't want him either but the reality is we could do worse. If Glavine is the #5 guy in the rotation as we have placed Livan and Silva possibly, why not Glavine. His numbers as as good as theirs (well better than Livan and just a bit worse than Silva) plus he had more quality starts than all of them and gave us 200 innings.

Glavines problem with us is we used him as our #1. Looking at him as a number 5 kind of changes the perspective for me.

I'd still go hard after the ace but we lose nothing by either getting him back if he accepts arbitration or if we get the pick. Meaining... We can still package others to get the ace and in the meantime we have a back end of the rotation starter who eats 200 innings, pitches to a mid 4 era and can win 12 games on this squad (maybe more if he is pitching against other teams number 5 starters rather than 4 times against John Smoltz

Why do people think that Glavine will only get 10 mil in arbitration. I thought arbitration will pay you more unless you performance was drastically worse than the year before. Glavine went 13-8 and pitched 200 Innings. More than likely he will be offer in the 11-12 mil range.

@ natew

Yea, except Perez will probably cost more than 4 years at $10 mil per. If Silva is at that, Perez could get $15 mil per and his agent knows it.

No one here WANTS Glavine. This is a matter of being smart. Glavine won't accept arbitration when he has already turned down $13 mil. This is simply for getting a draft pick in the first round, from a division rival no less. It's our way of saying "F U!"

Tom Glavine is untradable.

He's a 5/10 player, he has a full no trade and there is no way he would approve a deal to anywhere but Atlanta.

just let him go, forget the 17th pick.
