Fair enough. I guess there are not a lot of guys to support what I'm saying. It just seems that sometimes he makes decisions based on friendships and overpays his friends even if it's not the best baseball decision.

I should not have used the words "long term contract". I can't complain about Pedro ... I still love the Pedro signing. All I'm saying is that there are certain guys that he gives too much in years and dollars simply because he has a friendship with them, or has an infatuation with.

It seems like he loved Franco ... made sure he "had a job" ... gave him the extra year. He was hot for Sammy Sosa for a good while ... thank God that didn't happen. He loves Castillo ... so all I'm saying is if Castillo gets more than 2 years from Omar then I don't think anyone can argue that it would be a bad baseball move and Omar is clearly overpaying for a guy that he likes, and is not necessarily the best bet for the team.

Okay. I wouldn't consider 2 years to be long term. But if you insist, that's one. Doesn't exactly make a mold though, does it.

Offer the guy arbitration and get a supplemental pick out of him if he leaves. If he accepts, it's essentially a 1 year deal that fans cand the front office can live with. He's not worth 4 years.

I'm having a little trouble thinking of any "old broken down guys" signed to long term contracts. Alou 1 y ear, Mota 2 years, or even Schoen... don't really fit the description. So who does?

Yeah, and there is a big, big problem if his mold consists of signing old broken down guys to long contracts. There is a little too much favoritism and personal freindship stuff that goes on with Omar. If he signs Castillo for any more than 2 years, then it just supports that even more.

Agreed ... why on Earth should the Mets bring him back for 4 years? Why should the bring him back even for 3 years? That would be ludicrous.

4 years? If the Astros want him that bad, let him go.

They should be able to pick up someone in a minor trade, or jsut go with Gotay as the regular, and Easley against some lefties.

Gotay should also ditch switch hitting too.

Since Castillo gives you nothing, not hard to replace him with a slick glove, light weight bat.

This one could get tricky.....Do we sign him now, or see if we can pick up a 2B in multi player trade?/ I think if Omar waits too long, he might be left out in the cold. I think that I would rather sign a FA like Castillo rather that use blue chips to get one. I am really uneasy about the pitching situation. There just isn't anyone out there that excites me. At least that is attainable. i.e. Santana
