Buzz: Dodgers in on Miguel Cabrera
By Matthew Cerrone - Nov 14, 2007 8:47 am

In the Palm-Beach Post, a ‘source with knowledge of Florida’s negotiations,’ Joe Capozzi lists the Dodgers and Angels as ‘front-runners, among a half-dozen teams,’ who are trying to acquire Marlins 3B Miguel Cabrera.

According to Capozzi, and his source, the Marlins have asks the Angels for 2B Howie Kendrick and RHP Nick Adenhart, along with another pitcher and an outfielder.

it’s sad, not that i want the Mets to use their chips on cabrera, it’s just, even if i wanted him, it’s sad to know the Mets would have zero chancethat being said, i’ll continue to post about him, because a) a miguel-less Marlins is relevant to the Mets, and b) if he goes to the Dodgers, or any other team in the national league, it’s relevant, as well…go Angels…

If he goes to the Angels for a package including Howie Kendrick, it could free up Uggla who would be a nice addition at 2B for us…..

    • Juuu know what I'm Sayin? says:

Uggla is a bad defensive 2B who K’s WAY too much. He has some power, and hits a lot of doubles. Decent player, I’d probably like to go in another direction however.

      • napes22 says:

Uggla’s year 2 years back was a litte flukey – High K rate, and by the end of the year he came down to earth. He’s not THAT good of a player…and like Juuu know said, he’s a terrible defensive 2nd baseman.

  2. janmar says:

Since we cannot comment on the poll I had to make it here. I cannot sum up my feelings for the job Minaya is doing right now with a simple yes or no. How about a TBD. We make up our minds after the off season?

    • Juuu know what I'm Sayin? says:

I’ll agree, this is a huge off-season for Omar, HUGE. If he simply ends up with Yorvit & Livan, I will be furious.

      • janmar says:

By the way has anyone taken a look at Torrealba’s stats? What is there that I’m missing. What is the attraction? I think it’s time to bring back LoDuca.

        • Juuu know what I'm Sayin? says:

His ethnicity (Omar will cite “intangibles”)…that’s the X-Factor.

        • BigHangWithEm says:

How about the fact he is basically LoDuca, statistically, except he’s only 29, not 36.

There were zero options out there at catcher, barring a trade, so why not just invest some money in a solid catcher that seems to be improving a little bit each season and is deemed to be a good defensive catcher.

The way the Mets lineup is built, there is no need for a big masher like Carter or Piazza, just someone young, that can throw and catch.

I don’t what the love affair with LoDuca was. The guy barely hits, never walks, plays below avg defense. The only thing he does is hit singles at a decent rate. Big deal.

OK, can we please STOP with that “fan confidence rating”?? It’s a joke. The Mets have done nothing since their historic collapse (Yes, I know the off-season is still early), yet this site’s fans have gained confidence in Omar from 4.7 to 6.2 ?? What!?!? Because the re-signed Willie? 50% of the readers on this site wanted him out in the midst of the collapse! I just don’t get it.

Aside from the fact that Omar’s approval rating is above 60%….Uhm, huh? Omar’s an average GM…he’s made good moves, and bad ones since he’s been here, like any GM….but after LAST SEASON…and the rumors swirling about Livan Hernandez and YORVIT I am shocked at the HOMERISM illustrated in these polls.

Whew, had to get that off my chest. You all win.

    • napes22 says:

There’s nothing wrong with asking fan’s confidence based off of the buzz created by their GM and potential offseason direction. The collapse shouldn’t be that much of a factor since then. The collapse is behind us – it sucked, but its over. The new confidence rating is looking forward towards the new season.

      That’s my take.

      • Juuu know what I'm Sayin? says:

There’s nothing wrong with it, agreed, it’s fun to look at. What has happened, however, to increase the Mets’ fans confidence over the last month? It just goes to show people hop on here, see the poll, and probably click 8,9,or 10 because they’re a homers.

    • PereztoHeilmantoWagner says:

      Are you alright?

  4. loopenark says:

Howie Kendrick is a fitst rate ballplayer and Angels have very good young pitching. Watch out for Marlins if they get that package.

  5. napes22 says:

I really don’t think the Angels will give up Kendrick to get Cabrera. He is such a talented player and 2B talent is thin in the majors. They do have an extremely deep farm system and will find another way to get cabrera…maybe even giving up Brandon Wood.

  6. Juuu know what I'm Sayin? says:

If the Angels get Cabrera, how does the ARod market shape up? LA Dodgers, Boston, SF, Detroit?

  7. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

If the Angels get Miggy then the list of suitors for A-Rod gets even smaller. Although I would think that would have little to no impact on how much Boras demands for him.

Does anyone think that if the Dodgers landed A-Rod they would then feel easier about unloading some of their younger guys to Minnesota to pull off a Santana trade? Or maybe something with the A’s to get one of their big pitchers. They’re looking for healthy arms as much as anyone in the league since beyond Penny they didn’t have that healthy of a starting rotation (Schmidt, Wolff, Kuo). Billingsley/Kemp/Loney/etc should be enough to get almost any GM on the phone.

  8. BigHangWithEm says:

Oh, and why would the Mets want Cabrera. I say no thanks to Stay-Puft! Cabrera will eat his way out of the league once he gets paid.

I have no desire to add an atrocious fielded that gives ZERO effort and decides it’s more important to start fistfights with his teammates than be a leader.

  9. gbaked says:

I never want Cabrera on my team.

I laugh at anyone who would take a slacker like Cabrera, who visibly takes plays off and gets in public fights (sometimes on the field) with his own teammates… but doesnt want ARod because he is a bad teammate…

Also, if he goes to the dodgers, then they lose their chips for santana. If he goes to the Angels, then Borass looses them in the bargaining room.

  10. Peaches says:

Who wouldn’t want a second David Wright in his lineup?

    • Xavier22 says:

While impressive offensively, he’s nowhere near David in terms of attitude and hustle. I would bet reasonable money that as soon as he signs a mulit-year/big dollar contract with some team, he will become Mo Vaughn-esque in his dimensions.

      • BigHangWithEm says:

Maybe Mo and David Wells combined.

I think Cabrera looks at a fatty like Prince Fielder and thinks to himself “that’s not fat … I’ll show everyone what a fat slugger REALLY looks like”

      • gowrightgo says:

true. But he is also a better hitter than DW. Not alot better but better. Cabrera is more Manny Ramirez type. Cabrera in a big time lineup with protection would absolutely rake.

        Think of a 1 2 3 4 5 6 of
        Reyes
        Beltran
        wright
        Cabrera
        Delgado
        Alou

    • BigHangWithEm says:

Well, actually, Cabrera would be the best hitter on the Mets but …. the guy is a grade A jerk.

He starts fistfights in the dugout, is quite possibly the laziest man in MLB, could be 300 pounds very soon and is an absolute butcher in the field, possibly the worst defensive 3B after, Ryan Braun, in MLB.
