Buzz: Mets Undecided on Livan Hernandez

by Matthew Cerrone on November 14th, 2007 at 8:32 am

In a recent column for FOXSports.com, Ken Rosenthal writes that the Mets are ‘divided’ on whether to make a ‘strong push’ for free-agent RHP Livan Hernandez, who could also be of interest to the Cardinals and Astros.

Yesterday, in the New York Times, Ben Shpigel wrote that Omar Minaya may ‘seriously consider’ signing Hernandez, as he searches for an innings-eater.

As Rosenthal points out, Hernandez, Tom Glavine and Greg Maddux are the only major-league pitchers to make 30 or more starts in each of the past 10 seasons.  However, Hernandez’s total innings-pitched has dropped during each of the last four years.

…as i said yesterday, the buzz in baseball, for a while now, has been that livan and his brother, Orlando Hernandez, have been wanting to be on the same team for years now, hoping to reunite before one or both of them retire…

Orlando is a free agent after next season.

By the way, in his report, Rosenthal also writes about the market for Miguel Cabrera and Torii Hunter in Los Angeles, as well as the future’s of Geoff Jenkins, Tony Clark and the Reds, who must decide whether to trade a young position player for a pitcher.
