Only a few people have mentioned this, and I think most of you guys are missing the bigger picture here.

The FA Catcher crop is SMALL, and the only way to bolster that position would be to trade away our young prospects. Omar needs those chips to land PITCHING.

All Torrealba will cost us money, and a small amount at that. This is EXACTLY what Omar should be doing. If he can easily and cheaply (meaning no prospects) fill the hole at catcher and resign Castillo, we can focus on the BP and SP.

Omar, i applaud you. Make us proud!

I don't think you judge a contract by whether or not a player ever goes on the disabled list. If so, then you'd have to say almost all contracts are bad.

I think you judge them by whether or not most of the years in the contract were good ones where the player performed up to or close to expectations. For me, if two-thirds of a 3 year contract on a reliever are productive, then it's a good contract.

Look at it this way. I predict every year of Mota's contract will be bad, and at least 2 out of 3 years of Show's contract will be bad. So even if they remain healthy the entire time, does that really matter?

castro had I think the third highest hr per plate appearance or somewhere around there, I think he's worth keeping around. I agree though that his bad back had really bad timing last year, and his main job was to not be hurt when the other guy was hurt.

He's also someone that's often mentioned as an important clubhouse guy, keeping everyone loose.

I'm starting to really warm to the idea of two complementary catchers.

Maine and Haren have almost the same service time. I assume Beane would be putting Haren on the block to acquire players who are farther away from arbitration than Maine is. Otherwise what's the point in trading Haren?

I guess what you're saying is that a changeup should never be thrown on the first pitch to a batter.

Try watching Johan Santana sometime. Or Trevor Hoffman.
