Mark Hale of The Post reports the Mets are interested in Japanese RHP Hiroki Kuroda.

Hale obtained a scouting report from an American League official. He writes…

“[Kuroda's] fastball is “average to slightly above average” and that he has a “good forkball.” The official also said Kuroda “throws strikes and is a tough competitor.”

Recently, Jason A. Churchill of Prospect Insider also provided a very detailed and complete scouting, which stated Kuroda’s fastball had “some late life” and predicted the 33-year old could command a three-year contract worth $3 million annually.

Last week, David Lennon of Newsday reported the Mets had been scouting Kuroda, who was playing in Asia Series in Japan.

Kuroda was 12-8 with a 3.56 ERA in 26 games for the Hiroshima Toyo Carp of the Japanese League last season.

…buzz around the league suggests the Red Sox, Phillies, Dodgers, Royals and Mariners interested in obtaining kuroda…

Could he be any worse than Mota? I say no. Eat Mota’s contract and sign this guy. Or Riske or Mahay. Any of them will be money better spent than overpaying for A-fraud who by the way is on his knees right now groveling to the brothers Steinbrenner and begging to come back “home” to the Bronx.

for $3M a year, compared to the $10 that silva is looking for, why not

Because if you listen to any other source, he’s in range to get 8-10 annually, not 3. I guess it doesn’t hurt to inquire, but expecting him to sign a contract that cheap is probably a pipedream.

I don’t think A Rod has to worry about groveling. Most likely, the Yanks offer arbitration, so at worst, he will get a one year deal.

stick, according to Madden, he has been groveling for days.

Apparently that market for a $30+ million/year slugger is non-existent. As I predicted.

This is one dreary off season. Get DWs opinion, he was dead on last year about Kai Igawa.

I’m just not a big fan of Kuroda, his stuff is just very, BLAH.
His fastball is pretty weak and he’s no magician with that fringe fastball.
I must say however that he has a very nice breaking pitch.

Japanese professional players are vastly overrated. I hope the Mets don’t waste their time with someone who has the talent level of a high minor leaguer.
