My oh my. Are we really using "Castro's humor and the smiles he brings to the players faces" as one of the reasons it was good to bring him back. I dont care how good his jokes are, because this 2 bad catcher platton we are being sold on has me thinking the joke is on us.

This week, the contemporary Mets have taken two steps to guard against the dreaded passed ball, agreeing to a contract with free agent Yorvit Torrealba and re-signing BACKUP catcher Ramon Castro.

In the last three seasons, Castro HAS been given multiple opportunities to start many games in a row (given the fact that the catching position IS prone to injury) and he's proven that he tires. His body wears down even in a back up role, and he just gets tired when playing too many games in a row. Platooning him really is the best option, in having him around. He DOES produce when given the chance, provided that chance is in spot starts.

Which other catcher would you suggest they platoon Castro with, and how would you go about obtaining him.

I'm new here so don't kill me but...

Why the mistrust of Castro as the starting catcher? Granted he is somewhat injury prone, but show me a catcher who isn't. Since he has been in a Mets uniform he has done nothing but produce when given the chance.

That being said, I kind of like the idea of a catching platoon. It just doesn't make sense to do it with these two catchers.

We should try to acquire Ryan Doumit. He's a good hitter and an adequate emergencey catcher.

its nice to hear someone say something good about a player's clubhouse presense that is not named loduca. this comment about castro got me thinking about a guy who seemed to be the type of "emotional leader" that was missing last season.

how about bringing back Cliff Floyd and splitting time in LF the same way the team is planning on doing with the catchers? (just as long as it doesnt effect at bats for lastings)

omar is clearly just looking out for his own kind here, how could you not re-sign mike defilice. that guys a gritty hustling fiery competitor.....JUST KIDDING, im happy we got castro back i was getting nervous at the end of the year bc i thought he'd go somewhere else for a starting gig, glad to see hes gonna be back next year. i know he can be prone to breaking down but id like to see his bat in the lineup as much as possible.
