The agent for Paul Lo Duca has told the Daily News that the Mets never once made an attempt to re-sign his client.
Lo Duca’s agent, Andrew Mongelluzzi, among other comments, as quoted by the Daily News…
“There was not a lot of effort put into offering Paul a job, whether it was one year, two years, three years, four years. I don’t think Paul was the first choice when he got here, and I don’t think he was the first choice this year.”
…he wasn’t the first choice, i think that’s become quite clear…during the last week, i have heard over and over again the idea that the Mets wanted to sign Ramon Hernandez, but after acquiring Carlos Delgado and Billy Wagner, the wallet was empty, so they traded for a less-expensive alternative, in lo duca…

I still think we should have at least attempted to sign Paulie, There wasn’t much available for catchers who were better defensively or Offensively than Lo Duca, the only thing we gained in Yorvit was a bit of youth.
I would have rather seen us say, make a 1 year offer to Paul, let him know that 2008 would be his last year, and see what the FA market is in ‘09,

3rd in Baseball in total revenues, but for a catcher who isn’t that expensive in the grand scheme of things, the wallet is empty. Great job Omar and Wilpons! Now enjoy paying $15 million over 3 years to a career scrub, I don’t care what spin they put on it about Yorvit’’s handling of a pitching staff, etc.
Short-sighted, typical Mets.
Do we have anyone in this organization who can think ahead more than one season???
Hey, when the Minaya brought in Delgado, Wagner, Lo Duca and Sanchez all in the same year, LOWERED the overall team payroll and brought the team tlo the playoffs. Lo Duca made sense compared to Hernadez at that point in time ebcasue theywould over pay a catcher that they would not be sure how would handle the big apple to get Hernandez.
Lo Duca is now 2 years older and is not a sure .300 hitter anymore. With 2b being either eck or Castillo, both tough outs with speed, we do not need a number 2 hitting man any more who can hit the runners along.
Lo Duca’s value dropped for our team and he would cost more than what we have now. It is not ideal but it is also not costly at the price of Catchers today. They are not superb hitters but they are younger with more of a potential for an upside. And because the rest of the Mets line-up is pretty dominant they are going to see more pitches to hit.
Lets not act like Lo Duca leaving is the end of the world.
Ya also have to love the thought of LoDuca catching for the Rockies with his character…remember Colorado has their bible readings and prayer meetings before their games and supposedly won’t allow “men’s” magazines in the locker room? Yeah, that sounds like Paulie will fit right in!
Well I sure hope the money wasn’t an issue there with Ramon Hernandez. If they wanted him, we’re the Mets, we should’ve got him. But I believe that the Mets may have balked because they were close to the budget. At the time, Ramon Hernandez was being courted by many teams and he signed a 4 year 32 million dollar deal and thats WITHOUT the Mets in the bidding. Meaning, if Ramon Hernandez would’ve been here, the Mets likely would’ve went to 4 and 36. While acquiring LoDuca did make sense, it’s discouraging if Hernandez was the first choice why they did not get him. Now we had to sign a catcher in Torrealba who may not even be as good as LoDuca (although he is younger, so thats a plus.)
Either way, I want to wish Paulie luck. You played with heart, but we had to move on. Best of luck, except against the Mets.
application loan payday…
She no fax required payday loan cheap loan payday till…
If you remember, Hernandez didn’t accept that money, or else he would be a met right now. Lo Duca also accepteda 2 year deal. The comment holds.
Didn’t the mets just assume LoDuca’s contract from the Marlins?????
And Hernandez didn’t accept, because he was lobbying for more $ and trying to get other teams involved. Omar just said to hell w/ u and traded for LoDuca.
