But we cannot underestimate the value of Xavier Nady, either. The guy is clearly the best player on PITT, and is a phenomenal right handed clutch hitter. He was 5th in MLB in BA with 2 outs RISP last year, and would have been a remedy to the Mets horrible clutch hitting throughout 2007. I honestly think the the best this lineup has looked over the past 3 years was with Xavier Nady batting 6th and protecting our big 3-5 bats. I'd go as far as to say that this entire team has not looked as good from the moment he was traded. The Mets obviously had to make that deal considering the situation, but I seriously look at that Duanar Sanchez injury occuring late summer 2006 as being a tipping point putting many other things in motion that has resulted in the recent angst amongst Mets fans. Jesus Flores was ready to be next in line to be brought up at the end of this year for a cup of coffee and maybe get 250 ABs as a backup in 2008.
