All these Neanderthals that seem to greet every piece of news concerning the current Mets with " --- sucks!" ( insert any name you care to ), need to ponder that lineup from only 4 short years ago.

If they still believe that Minaya and Randolph etc. haven't moved our team in the right direction, I see no point in either arguing with them or, frankly wasting much time noting what they have to say...

agreed. Any move that takes a current member of the rotatin away is a non-starter.

The problem with option 1 is that, given the perceived value of our prospects, the big ace may cost us one of Maine and Perez, leaving us again with a hole in the rotation. Both pitchers have the potential to be 20 game winners in the next year or two- they need to be untouchable if this team wants sustainable success.

great post, stickguy. Minnesota has pitching to burn, and has a reputed interest in Gomez. I think we would do well to humor them on that score, and relieve them of some of their excess arms.

No, definitely not in a good way. Names such as "Alomar" and "Cedeno" do not bring back happy memories.

Dont forget that it was Kevin Appier going in the other direction in that trade. Appier was eventually released by the Angels who had to eat his overpaying contract rather than the Mets. And with the insurance $ on Mo's injuries helping, you can make the case that the Angels got the worst of that trade.

It's just when he pitched that gem against Atlanta (6IP, 1H, 7), he was blowing people away with his fastball which was consistently at 96-97. Pretty much every other start, he was toning down to 90-93 (trying to get groundballs) and he didn't do so well. I just think he's always been a power pitcher and that's his bread and butter.

They might have to reinforce the mound to handle the extra weight.
