I actually think it's the other way around. Seems the typical met fan under values our prospects. Keep in mind these guys are very young and raw, and have to be compared to the other young, in some instances triple A guys around the majors.

Milledge and or Gomez will very likely be gone in obtaining pitching and or a catcher. That leaves Endy in right field. Endy is an exceptional bench outfielder, great defense, but not an every day right fielder. Hope Omar has a plan to fill that spot.

That is simply erroneous. Such a deal was never on the table.

Agreed.

Does it upset any of you that we do a pretty lousy job of pumping our youthful players successes? For example, Maine, who deserved to be an all star at the halfway point last year and finished the year by almost throwing a no hitter, should be talked about all over baseball as the next big thing. Gotay, a guy who hit .340 with some pop for the better part of a half season, should be promoted big team to be a future allstar with serious pop and switch hitting ability.

Promote Promote Promote.

Other teams do a far better job at this than the METS and in the end, we toss in a Gotay as an afterthought on a deal where he could be the centerpiece.

Example A - Yankees and Melky Cabrera. If he were a MET, he would be a toss in. a mediocre fielding, mediocre hitting with no power guy. Yet if you read the papers, he would be the centerpiece in a deal with the Twins for Santana. Milledge would absolutely out everything Cabrera but we don't get the pub. All we hear is that Milledge would be nowhere near enough to even land Blanton or Garza

Agreed. If we trade Heilman, Milledge and Mulvey for Bedard, then turning around and trading Gomez for Garza straight up would sound reasonable.

Rotation of
Bedard
Pedro
Maine
Ollie
Garza

Need an outfielder and one more back of the pen guy though.

Is it a given that Duque moves to the pen next season? Has anyone in the METS front office spoken to this at all?

I'm still steamed. If Omar really did reject Gomez for Garza, then add me (finally) to the HE Must go list.

Some times a GM gets so fascinated by a certain guy and his "potential" that they lose the forest for the trees.

maybe Omar really thinks he will be a superstar. Well, the Mets don't ned him (and he won't be a productive ML starter) probably for a couple of years yet.

However, they could desperately need a guy like Garza right now. And based on all the ridiculous trade proposals (and asking prices), young, cheap, good SPs with high end potential are rare, and expensive.

There is always another GOmez coming along (mere bling at this point).

If ture, they wil live to regret this deal, when they end up paying more for Blanton (already an inferior pitcher to Garza), or give up the farm for an "ace (Gomez + way, way more) and end up with little to no improvement in the rotation, but more holes elsewhere.

I would take Garza for GOmez right now over Santana for GOmez + pelfrrey + Mulvey + Gotay (or whatever it ended up being) when you sonsider all the factors (age, contract, $$).

Absolutely no argument with what you say.

I just love it when I get to spend so much time reading posts that heap all of these accolades upon a guy who has not even set foot in a big league stadium. I actually don't mean to be confrontational on this, but holding such unproven raw talent in such high regard actually makes me laugh.

I am all for trading for Garza. He is good, and he is young.

But I do not think that a trade for Garza is more beneficial to the Mets than trading for the best pitcher in baseball. Not by a long shot. And not just because it allows us to hold on to Lastings Milledge. That's a small market mentality.
