Buzz: Indians Close to Signing Kobayashi
By Brandon Eddy - Nov 20, 2007 2:02 pm

According to a report on FOXSports.com, ‘citing major-league sources,’ the Indians are close to an agreement with free-agent RHP Masahide Kobayashi.

Kobayashi is in Cleveland today to take a physical.

He has averaged 31 saves the past seven seasons with the Chiba Lotte Marines, the team managed by Bobby Valentine.

…looks like the indians took a page from the Red Sox (see Hideki Okajima) …kobayashi should be a nice compliment to bullpen workhorses Joe Borowski and Rafael Betancourt

by the way, wasn’t there a guy named kobayashi who was looking for keyser soze…

Does this mean Kobayashi won’t participate in the Nathan’s hot dog eating championship?

  2. gbaked says:

    kobayashi was his lawyer

  3. TG1 says:

MAYBE HE GOT TIRED OF WINNING! and kobayashi WAS soze…i think.

we should trade for Joe Borowski and Rafael Betancourt..im sure there ready to be workhorses again if clevland is signing someone else!

No dude, Kobayashi wasn’t Soze. Virgil the cripple was Soze. Kobayashi was actually the name of the pocelain company that made the coffee mug.

I know this because a guy named Redfoot who was Orka fat told me this while we were picking fresh coffee beans in Guatemala.

  4. FBones24 says:

    Bobby Valentine is Keyser Soze.

  5. Benny Blanco from da Bronx says:

My opinion is that he’s alright but he’s not going to be dominant. He’s probably in the top 5 available relievers though.
    He won’t be like Okajima.

Terrible job by Eddy. Is it pronounced Edie? or Eddie? Because if its Edie that was the name of Keaton’s girlfriend in Usual Suspects. Terrible job tho.. Kobayashi was as mentioned IS Mr. Soze’s LAWYER.

And gottabelieve07, thanks for spoiling the film. But.. it’s VERBAL. Not Virgil.

Omar will come out and say, “Ya know I took a look at this guy and we could have signed him, but I was too busy backing out of a deal with a horrible catcher from Colarado and signing a 2B with bum knees. I am going to sign Livan Hernandez instead because I think we need to add more age to this team. Forget Gomez for Garza. Garza is to good, ya know what I’m sayin?”.

  8. the clap says:

Knowing that our *only* Eastern Hemisphere scout is Jeff Wilpon’s stupider (if you wrap your noggin around that one) brother, Bruce, it’s a good thing that we’re not signing any more Japanese players. Not that Omar the overseas expert is so great, either (Mr Koo anyone?).

Let’s let the teams that actually spend money on Asian scouting sign the Asian players, while the Mets do what they do best: signing 16 year olds who play with milk carton gloves (all of whom are hyped as the next Juan Gonzalez/Sammy Sosa) and 32 to 42 year old gimpy guys.

  9. Steve from Norfolk says:

Wonder if he knows the solution to the Kobayashi Maneuver??

  10. youcannotbeserious says:

How could we let any “top” reliever, no matter what league they play in, sign with another team without even making a play for him. I just don’t get it. I guess Omar’s master plan is to wait till the last minute and pick up all the waived players from spring training. Is Jesse Orosco still playing?

    • BSMITTYFDNY says:

Omar seems to have certain ideas stuck in his head and only focus on them. I dont think he investigates all options available to us, only those he prefers. Does anyone believe he really inquired about Brad Lidge before he was dealt to the Phillies? I think he came out after the fact and said he did to cover up his lack of effort. I hope I am wrong.
