If you’re looking for a quick roundup on some of the more prominent rumored activity in the trade and free-agent markets around the league, head over to this article by Jim Moloney at MLB.com.
Among other things, he discusses a potential trade offer from the Angels for Miguel Cabrera, Kerry Wood possibly re-signing with the Cubs despite a lot of interest elsewhere, and the Yankees pursuit of several relief pitchers, including Jeremy Affeldt, Trevor Miller and Francisco Cordero – but points out that Cordero prefers to close and not be a set-up man.
…i’m guessing the mets focus has shifted to starting pitching, but i’m curious as to what will be done about the bullpen (especially if they move Aaron Heilman in a deal for a starter). they’ve had interest in affeldt in the past, Scott Linebrink and wood are both intriguing options, obviously cordero would be worth pursuing if for some reason he can’t find a job as a closer…

Linebrink will be out unless the Brewers non-tender him. He’s a Type A FA. We’d have to be stupid to part with our first rounder for him.
Kerry Wood is now an average 30 year old reliever. How the mighty have fallen.
“Linebrink will be out unless the Brewers non-tender him. He’s a Type A FA. We’d have to be stupid to part with our first rounder for him”
+1. like being stupid giving up for a first rounder for alou the fossil.
Funny thing about trading Heilman in a deal for a starter is that Heilman never proved that he can’t be an effective MLB starter. The Mets have thrown a lot of crap way worse than Heilman into the rotation in the years since Heilman went into the pen. He’s just been guilty of being too effective to take out of there.
I guess it’s only in the realm of fantasy to throw Heilman in the mix for a starter’s job at the backend of the rotation. Rick Peterson’s opinion is as good as gold, and if the great guru decides you’re merely MLB bullpen material, then that’s the way it is. He certainly was correct about Scott Kazmir.
Tomorrow is Thanksgiving and I am thankful that Mota is no longer a Met. Now for Christmas I am asking for a starting pitcher from the following group: Santana, Garza, Peavy, Oswalt, Harden, Haren, or Willis. I have been very good this year so I would like two of those guys please. I would really like both Santana and Garza. Now as a stocking stuffer Omar, please get me at least one very good bullpen arm such as Riske, Linebrink, Bradford (in a trade) Cordero, etc. I would also like 2 of them please. Also try to keep Milledge in RF. Thanks Omar. Happy Thanksgiving and Feliz Navidad!
BSMITTYFDNY,
I agree with your wish for Dontrelle Willis. Although he had a disappointing 5.17 ERA last year, a switch of teams( to the New York atmosphere), I feel would renovate him back to the D-Train we knew! Dontrelle’s batting skills wouldn’t hurt, either!!!!!
Just for the record, Dontrelle is 11-3 lifetime vs. the mets with about a 2.51 era… but against the rest of mlb is just 57-51, with a 3.97.
Unfortunately, i don’t think the Marlins would trade Willis to another NL Eastern Division team.
The Marlins are trying to get Florida to build them a new stadium. How would it look if they unloaded one of their most popular players to a competitor (especially) within the division?
When / if they do decide to trade Willis…..i believe it’ll be to the American League or a west coast NL club.
BTW….this same reasoning works in the Mets favor when it comes to Santana.
Yeah, and if Santa ever did fill out your order for 2 top-tier starters and 2 top-tier relivers, you’d probably find David Wright and Jose Reyes under some other team’s x-mas tree! Nice fantasy though…
Is Chris Mazzone some kind of anagram for Matt Cerrone, writing under an alias?

So… assuming they’re planning to win the World Series, you’d rather “take” Kerry Wood than have the Mets win the Series?
Dude … you know what he meant. Don’t be annoying.
It’s annoying that the same day Omar makes one of the greatest deals (getting rid of Mota for a serviceable catcher, while keeping those chips intact for a future deal), supposed “fans” still find a way to knock him. Kerry Wood is finished, dude, and when Omar makes a move for the bullpen, let’s revisit whether that move will be better than Mr. Wood woulda been! That’s why you’re not a GM.
