See: Citi Field, from the Inside Out

Michael, a reader of MetsBlog, recently took a tour of Citi Field’s contruction site and was able to snap the following photos, from what should essentially be the infield.

I had a dream last night I was at my grandmother’s house in Queens. Her back window overlooked Citifield and on the infield was a track and field team practicing. Weird. Maybe I’m anticipating a possible NYC summer olympic bid.

Anyone know where Home plate is in relation to the current stadium? I wonder if they did any wind studies before building?

      • dannyb says:

Home plate is basically aligned with center field, maybe left center field of Shea. The right field line will be perpendicular to “chop shop alley” just outside the current parking lot. Left field will be the same with Northern Blvd. Does that help?

      • gameball says:

The field will face more north than the field at Shea, so that the prevailing wind, which blows from left to right field at Shea, will blow more in from left field at CitiField.

However, the shape and construction of the new park will determine how that wind affects the field of play. Shea, as you know if you’ve ever been to a game in mid-April, is completely open to the wind — the stadium itself provides almost no barrier to the sometimes gale-forces whipping off Flushing Bay. This is why righty pull hitters are usually at a disadvantage here.

I’m hoping the construction of CitiField is more in the style of the new “cozy” parks, and provides fans some protection from the elements.

Even in its current state CitiField already looks better than Shea. :)

  3. I’m thinking about buying one of those bricks on the Fan Walk and having it inscribed with “I used to park here”. :-)

Anyone feel like having a Thanksgiving Mud Bowl on the Citifield infield?
