While I agree I also think there is something to the mentailty that you can't just run out the same team that collapsed last year and not add anything to it. In fact, though the backup replacements are better, you are taking away three starters in Lo Duca, Green and Glavine. I think it's addition by subtraction but you still have to change something by adding -- it was a fluke thing but 7 with 17 to go cannot just be swept under the rug.

It's NOVEMBER! The internet and daily and hourly updates have really affected the young baseball fans like JL185 and Mets24 who have no concept of the history of the sport. The winter meetings have not yet taken place, kids.

If you look at the Mets history of good FA and bad FA signings (the big names), the good ones all came with patience after the meetings, the bad ones typically were done earlier in December. But no, you cannot wait, you need Omar to show his cards today, to let YOU know everything will be alright four months before the season instead of three.

Reading these 15 year olds complain before anything happens is just maddening.

Both points I've been harping on. Sanchez cannot be relied upon to be as good as he was on 2006. He might be healthy, but how does that make him effective? He may be no better than Mota would have been.

And the starters are the key to the pen being better. They are for almost every team, every year. They need to do more than replace Glavine and Duque with Garcia and Pedro if they want to avoid a pen meltdown again next year. Even though the player development part of me wants to believe that Maine and Perez will improve and be more consistent they could also take steps backwards or sideways.

No way Pelfrey is bumped out of the rotation for Heilman. Both are a crap shoot as starters, but Heilman is proven as a reliever. Never gonna happen.

They are fine that way, if you could live with 80-85 wins next season in an effort to grow Humber and Pelfrey for the next several years. But I cant see most fans putting up with a "rebuilding year" when Alou, Delgado, Pedro, and Wagner are still part of the core of the team.

You could start with this core and sign a starter of the Garcia/Silva/Livan variety to allow Humber/Pelfrey to compete for the 5th starter role while the other develops in AAA.

no Gomez or Gotay or Mulvey in that scenario.....so why not package Gomez, Gotay, and Humber to the Twins for Garza. Move Pelfrey into the #5 slot and away we go.....
