I can't figure out why people would want to deal Carlos Gomez and keep Lastings Milledge. I don't think there is any doubt that Gomez is the better player. Carlos Gomez for one is 19 years old. He play are far better RF or CF then Milledge. His power will develop and his patience at the plate will come with experience. He has a ton more speed and looks to be a great #2 hitter in the making. He also at this point has less value on the open market at this point. Please Omar keep Gomez on the team and put him in the bigs as a platoon player this season in the outfield. If you can't get him enough at bats send him the AAA but don't let this kid go.

You can change that Dodgers comment to fiction. Unless he's blowing smoke, Colletti stated that the market is too steep and they are going with youth.

This would be an awesome team in MLB the Show, where injuries never happen, and if they do you can create yourself as a monster AAA prospect.

Seriously, we would have no organizational depth if we made these trades.

This Year
1) u sign somebody first so u deal from a position of strength and don't look like u r backed up against a wall to make a deal. Pelfrey is actually relatively good at the beginnig of games, so i would suggest putting him in the pen or AAA for some more seasoning because they did rush him a bit.
2) u can add gotay and carp if u want to my package for haren< i just would rather have him than santana< because we control him for three years as a opposed to one year. You also can't go into spring trainging with pelfrey as your fifth starter, u saw what happened last year< if he pitches really well let him take over for whomever is hurt or just not pitching well.
3) my top choice out of these offensive free agents that r left would be jones, because he plays great defense, may come cheaper then originally expected, and won't cost us a first round pick( maybe no pick at all if he is non tendered). See if beltran would move to right field or vice versa it is worth a try.
Next Year
1) Pedro might suprise u this year, and perezes price might be real high, but hopefully not.
2) if there is an ace available you have to try for him, and if u can get one next year as well as this year u have to to try and get him. So if u get him then u trade from your strength and trade a silva/ colon or even a maine and pickup some needed farm players or whatever the need may be. You spin the extra pitcher if we have him just like we did with Kris Benson.
3) Bedeard or haren to me r somewhat similar, but i think harens contract is longer and more palatable.

what Omar says in the press or in public forums is all said so that other GMs can read it. It's posturing. He says Gomez or Millz are his starting Rfielders - he's building the perception that they are MLB ready.

His plan has nothing to do with what he says publicly. He could very well be getting different deals from different teams and may be dealing both and getting back a player or signing a FA that we haven't thought of.

Nothing is for sure.

I think a lot of fans tend to fall in love and over value prospects.. These are not proven MLB talent. for every top prospect there are many under the radar players who make it on grit and determination. Others get hurt and never make it. others never fully develop past a certain level.

Omar and Co are scouting the Caribbean and south America and US Colleges / High Schools and will turn up diamonds in the rough... no one is emptying the farm system.

My point is.. There are plenty of fish in the sea. If you can turn a prospect or two or three into a proven MLB starting pitcher you've got to do it every time. No one should say prospects are untouchable.

I think it is time for the mets to forget about santana and go after matt cain ,eric bedard or danny haren .I think it would be a lot easier dealing with brian sabean than billy beane or the others!

I disagree they'd rather Matt Kemp straight up. Not for a stud like Bedard. They'd want at least 3 pieces,.

Gomez and Heilman AND HUMBER AND Gotay while eating Mora (who aint got much value around the league as a 3 Baseman) gives them much more options.

Bedard is due for a large raise in arbitration. he will be FA eligible in 2009. The O's spent like drunken sailors last year and got bumpkins for it.. so they're looking to cut payroll and accumulate prospects.

if the O's can get a top outfield prospect like Gomez AND dump some payroll along the way why wouldnt they be interested.

Id HARDLY say Heilman has zero value in the deal.. He is potentially a lock down closer for them for at least a year Surely he'll bring good value at the trade deadline in a dump for them.

Humber is a decent prospect and Gotay is a serviceable MLB player. I dont see the Dodgers eating salary after their comments today. Im sure Omar is talking as well.. except he has the latitude to add payroll.

Fact: The Yankees are thinking about dealing for Johan Santana, and have not ruled out the possibility of trading Hughes or Kennedy for him.

Fact: The Dodgers have their sights on young starting pitching, or a big name bat. They have talked about Haren, Blanton, Santana, Bedard and Miguel Cabrera.

Fiction: The Mets and Red Sox have a considerable shot at Johan Santana.

Fiction: The Dodgers are front runners for Miguel Cabrera.

Fact: The Mets may deal key young players like Lastings Milledge, Carlos Gomez, Aaron Heilman and Mike Pelfrey, but Gomez and Heilman are the most likely to get traded.
