The Mets today unveiled the ‘commemorative logo’ celebrating the 45-season history of Shea Stadium.
The Mets will wear this logo as a patch on the right sleeve of their uniforms
during all 2008 home games.
In the coming weeks, the team will announce plans for a season-long “Salute to Shea” that will include a series of special events and promotions.
…for what it’s worth, i wrote about this during the end of september, but this is the first official announcement from the team…if you click on the above photo, and check out the larger image, you’ll notice that the stadium is split in half, with a the old school shea on one side featuring those bizarre panels hanging from the building’s side, while the other side is our current version…nice work…
…and with that, bring on Citi Field…

On a personal note I think we will all miss Shea.. I mean some of us basically grew up there.
On another note..I think it’s about time…When compared to some of the beautiful stadiums around the league the Mets and their definitely deserve it
We’ll have Citifield soon enough. But I really hope the Mets rise to the occasion and have commemorative events that are fun for the fans and respectful of them. What I really want them to do is have a day or a few days when we can all just go down and walk on the field, promising to tear nothing up. I actually don’t mind this logo. I like being reminded of those blue and orange ruffly steel things they used to have on the side of the Shea. Boy, am I going to miss the place.
Any idea when the Mets will release their 2008 schedule? Some teams have already and you can piece together some games. It’s got to be soon with this recent celebration announcement.
The schedule will be released when MLB and ESPN finally decide on whether to have the Mets open up the Nationals new stadium on Sunday Night Baseball (March 30).
Im sure the new shea stadium commemorative patch will look good on my new Santana home jersey.
I’m happy that Shea is around just long enough so that I can take my two boys there this year with their grandfather for one last hurrah. To paraphrase Terrance Mann, the memories of sitting at Shea with my father and grandfather are so thick, I have to brush them away from my face.
I’ll miss my old dump. I know its time has come and gone, but there’s something about being there and having the ghosts of past Mets teams, and my own past, come flooding back. Citi will be wonderful, but it won’t be my park–it will belong to the next generation of Mets fans, and I’ll be a visitor.

Pinstripes @ home and Grays on the road.
Let give the sno-whites and gangsta black unis a rest.
Please!
I’m really pumped about Citi Field, but I’m also REALLY gonna miss Shea. As some of you have said, I feel like I practically grew up there. It may be a dump, but it’s OUR dump, and I’ve definitely been to dumpier stadiums (The Trop, The Vet, and RFK).
I’ve gone to the last game of the season about 5 times in the past decade, since my birthday is always around the last weekend of the year, and it’s an easy present my parents have been getting me since 1998…I’m praying they are able to get tix for the last game next season. If not, I’m stubhubbing it. Even if the Mets are out of contention (or, better yet, have clinched a playoff spot), I want to be there for the last regular season game, and they better have some awesome commemorative events.
