150 for Santana? no way for me.

I think for 150 million you can get Haren, Andru Jones, Livian Hernandez and Dotel.

You will overpay with prospects for Haren and I'd offer Milledge/Gomez/Mulvey and Pelfrey.

If they insist on Heilman then take out Mulvey or Pelfrey,

If the insist on FMart then take out Gomez.

Jones and Dotel can be bought and Jones will take 80 million for 5 years and play right.

plug Livian in at #5 with Haren at #1 and El Duque in the pen.

When you have pedro in the mix you are going to have a 6 man like it or not. He isn't going to pitch regularly he didn't do it when he came back and he isn't going to do it next year. It may not be a standard every 6 game rotation, but with pedro in there you might as well count it that way.

Precisely!!! I made this point a while back. He's been mum about his scenario, but he's in the driver seat, the Twins are just sitting next to him with the toy steering wheel.

Basically, we’re looking for a lefty. If El Duque is to be moved to the pen, we’re looking for a righty also.

My list of lefties that are even somewhat available are: Santana, Willis, Bedard. I’m sure that there are others, but I really don’t think any of them fit into what we’re looking for.

As for righties, the list is longer: Haren, Blanton, Garza, L.Hernandez, Silva, Garcia.

As I see it, Omar is keeping many of the options open right now, (as he should) but, if I was to guess, the plan is something like this:

Plan A, acquire Santana in a trade, have enough prospects left over to trade for Blanton.
Plan B, acquire Santana in a trade, have to give up too many prospects, so sign L. Hernandez.
Plan C, unable to acquire Santana, trade for Haren, and trade for Willis.
Plan D, unable to acquire Santana or Haren, trade for Blanton and Willis.
Plan E, can’t make a trade with A’s or Twins, trade for Willis and sign L. Hernandez.
Plan F, should no other righties fit into the mix, Garcia may be available still.

Realistically, there are probably six million different ways to tweak all this, especially given that you really have to “look into” trading for Miguel Cabrera and stuff also.
But, I think this over all is the plan. Given what Omar has to work with, and the options he has (or doesn’t have) I look forward to seeing what he can do.

Someone suggesting thinking in the real world and suggesting 6 man rotation. Nice.

There's a reason teams don't use the 6-man rotation in today's game and it's that there isn't enough good pitchers to go around as it is.
