News: Gomez Hit in the Head
By Chris Mazzone - Nov 28, 2007 1:15 am

Mets OF Carlos Gomez was hit in the head with a pitch last night while playing for Leones del Escogido in the Dominican Republic Winter League.

…it doesn’t sound too serious, but there’s not much to go on - and a hit to the head is nothing to take lightly…hopefully we’ll hear more soon…

    Wow, nice wedding present.

    • blow me says:

maybe it’ll knock some sense it to him and he’ll call off getting married…foolish dude, foolish!!!

i wonder if gomez got up and asked to smell the ball or his helmet after getting hit?? you know how he always likes to smell his bat after foul tipping the ball?

  2. plummetdown says:

our chip for santana. =( it gets worse and worse..

  3. tonylett says:

Maybe it’ll knock some sense into him and he’ll stop swingin’
    at everything.
If the anskyees land Santana for Cabrera and Kennedy
    there should be an investigation.

no one can tell me that Gomez/millage are not better prospects
then cabrera or that pelphrey/humber aren’t better then Kennedy.

Even Hughes. It’s Amazin’ that over the yrs. when a big-time players out on the market that the bronx bullies seem to pay less
prospect wise then what others are offering.

    I mean even w/ the redsox-Ellsbury and Lester isn’t a better pack
then melky a 3rd/4th OFer and Kennedy a4th/5th SP???

To be fair, the Twins need an ML ready CF but don’t need an ML ready pitcher. Cabrera is more ML ready than Gomez and the Twins don’t like Milledge, from what I’ve seen reported. So Cabrera/Kennedy might be a better fit for the Twins than Pelfrey/Gomez.

    • therealsince86 says:

I can tell you that we have no idea if Gomez or Milledge, especially Gomez, are better prospects than Cabrerra. At age 23 Cabrerra showed potential to hit for a decent average, while playing average to above average defense. I am not sure that Gomez can do that. He may be much better than Cabrerra but with what we have seen from his brief stint in the ML how can anyone say that Gomez is a better player? As for Milledge, one would assume that he would put up better numbers than Cabrerra over a full season. Assuming he stays out of trouble and does not get injured.

As for Pelfrey or Humber being better than Kennedy. No way, at this point I would trade both of them for Kennedy.

Not to mention how much better the Sox package is. 2 MLB ready difference makers for Santana?

      • kevin2elster21 says:

If I’m an objective GM, I’m taking Milledge over Melky any day. I would be concerned with his ‘bend ya knees’ attitude, but skills-wise, it’s not even close.

        • therealsince86 says:

I would prob. agree with that. I might want to at least see what Milledge does over a full season but talent wise I think you are right. I am just not sure about Gomez, YET.

        • mdemaio says:

They’re different kinds of players. Milledge has more pop and probably more raw talent, but Cabrera is more polished as a player right now. Cabrera is a fundamentally sound player and a contact hitter (struck out 69 times in about 600 plate appearances last year) who had 73 RBIs batting either really high or really low in a lineup that had a lot of run producers – he’s no slouch with the bat. I don’t get to watch him every day, but he obviously showed something to his team to compel them to bench highly-paid veterans to get him playing time his rookie year.

He also a better defensive outfielder and comes without the perceived baggage Milledge has. That’s less important to a team like Oakland, but could be crucial to a team like Minnesota…

    keep procrastinating omar

    • mrose says:

do you have a direct line to Omar and know he is? You have the worst posts on this blog ever made.

  5. MetsMaven says:

Wonderful. I don’t think Gomez is playing with a full deck as it is. Here’s a guy who seems incapable of fathoming the “don’t steal third with 2 outs” concept. This knock on the melon isn’t going to help his comprehension skills.

  6. tonylett says:

Pls., stop sounding like anskyee fans and trying to build up melky. Hes not a 300 type hitter has average power, ordinary
speed and can’t judge flyballs. except for that hes great.
Kennedy has the stuff of a mid to back end SP.
Hes a control guy who NO ONE projects to the top of a rotation.

And as far as being MLB ready, why would the twinkies care if
Hunter and Santana are gone? It would seem to put them in full
    rebuilding mode.

    • stickguy says:

Not really. They still have some good players, and will be banking on the young rotation arms stepping up.

Not sure if any team with mauer and Morneau would be considered to be in full rebuilding mode!

So someone that can handle the daily job is a plus. They might like gomez for his glove and speed, and not worrying too much about his stick.

    • therealsince86 says:

Hey, how about replying to the actual post instead of random. As far as sounding like a “anskyee”? Because I said that Milledge would be most likely better and that Gomez has proved nothing yet? Or that Kennedy in his brief debut did much better than Humber or Pelfrey did in theirs? I don’t think that much of Kennedy but it is clear that at this point he has more value than Pelfrey or Humber.

How about you sounding like a completely blind parent who thinks his benchwarmer son is actually better than the real players in the starting lineup. Grow up. Just because some one can look at things based on fact and observation not just ah “he’s a anskyee he sucks” or “he’s a brave, he sucks”. Take them for what they are.

  7. PereztoHeilmantoWagner says:

Poor Gomez…think the A’s would want him for Haren?

if i was cerrone, i would kick you off his blog… isnt there some kind of blogger ettiquette not to promote there blog on someone elses blog… disrespectful much?

  8. mrose says:

    anyone see this?

    http://www.philly.com/dailynews/sports/20071127_Phillies_Notebook___Latest_J-Roll_prediction__100_wins.html

    Rollins is predicting 100 wins…
that guys got brass balls man

  9. AzMetsFan says:

Unless Omar works some magic I don’t see the Mets stopping the Phils so I he may as well predict 110 wins. Hopefully, we can get Delgado a Sudoko puzzle so he won’t be bored.

As for the actual post…..that sucks. Gomez is getting married next week and if that’s not a sign then I don’t know what is.

    Feel better Gomez!

  10. johnnyrotton says:

gomez is fine. he was hit by an offspeed pitch that didnt break. he was taken out as a precaution and could have stayed in the game if it had any meaning
