this (santa-na) thing –locking down a true ace pitcher–might be the big moment, the big negotiation a gm prepares years for, and you’re right, there are no horses to trade with. Even the Spankers have built their farm up enough in recent years to outplay the Mets it seems, so in a sense this is an indictment of the management team.

Some head scratching non-protection of prospects, some unwillingness to sign draft picks over money, and some bad looking trades involving relief pitching (see for example Bannister, Padres bullpen). I wonder if there will be more to add to the pile this winter?

Being in Tampa, I’m a Rays season ticket holder, and let me tell you first hand, this guy SUCKS,,,He’s good for giving up 2-3 baserunners per inning…Look at his whip it is off the charts…About the only positive I can offer is he throws hard 95mph+…Also he is not fan friendly in the least, you would think if you that bad, you would be a little nicer to the fans….

Delcos at his blog says Stokes has been added to the 40-man roster. Now if that’s true, it doesn’t make any sense. Why waste a roster spot on a worthless player. If they lose another player like Jesus Flores in this year’s Rule 5 draft because of failure to protect him then Omar should be fired.
