According to the Denver Post, C Yorvit Torrealba will return to Colorado tomorrow to take a physical, in what is most likely the final step towards him re-signing with the Rockies.
In the report, the Post states that Torrealba did not fail his physical with the Mets.
…that’s what i had initially heard, as well…but, i’m starting to get a sense that this may not be entirely accurate…like i said before, either torrealba failed the actual physical, or he never took it because it was assumed he would fail…either way, same result…
…by the way, Paul Lo Duca is still a free agent…i’m just saying…

I think he failed it. Either that or he try to use the mets as a pawn and then he got to deep into the plan, then bailed out to sign with the Rox’s. I’m glad both Yorvit and LoDuca is out of here.
Yeah, if Colorado is still willing to go to the dance with Torrealba, we could still try and get a date with Paulie. I doubt it though, although it has always made the most sense. Omar’s handling of this was a fiasco and still is, because after all of the fumbling around, we still don’t have one catcher that isn’t at this stage an injury risk that we can count on. Either we won’t have that in 08, which I believe is a quite important element of any team, or more valuable time needed for pitching will be spent addressing this in the future.
MLB.com’s T.R. Sullivan has some interesting hot stove banter surrounding the Rangers.
* A three-year deal for Kosuke Fukudome or a two-year pact for Mike Cameron might be the most sensible options to fill the Rangers’ center field void. Aaron Rowand is probably too expensive.
* While the Rangers have a touch of interest in Adam Dunn and Coco Crisp, they prefer the idea of acquiring a young bat. Names they like: Fernando Martinez, Carlos Gomez, Carlos Gonzalez, and Matt Kemp. Sullivan notes that the Rangers have talked to the Reds about Josh Hamilton.
* If the Rangers sign starting pitching it’s likely to be of the injury comeback variety – Bartolo Colon, Freddy Garcia, Jason Jennings.
* Eric Gagne is still under consideration to be signed for their vacant closer role.
Johan Demands Changed?
The acquisition of Delmon Young, Brendan Harris, and Jason Pridie from the Rays changes everything.
First, the loss of Matt Garza lessens the chances of trading Santana at least a little bit. The Twins have pitching depth, but that’d be 40% of their 2007 rotation gone. It was probably always the case, but it’s definite now that if the Twins trade Santana this winter they need a very good MLB-ready starter in return.
Second, the Twins no longer need any outfielders. Sure, they could add another center fielder to be safe or even move Michael Cuddyer back to third base. But in my mind third base becomes the primary need for the Twins.
So now Bill Smith should be looking for an elite young hurler and a similar young third baseman. The Yankees and Red Sox can’t offer that. The Mets, Mariners, and Cubs don’t have it either. The Angels might – Nick Adenhart and Brandon Wood. The Dodgers could pull it off too, with Andy LaRoche and Chad Billingsley. How about a wild card like the Reds? They’ve got Homer Bailey and Edwin Encarnacion. And I imagine the Twins would find a way to work Jay Bruce in if they could get him.
True the demands change. But you missing something. Yes they lose Garza and Santana. But they have 2 AA pitchers who are studs. When Santana gets traded this winter I have no doubt the Twins will get a CF because they don’t have one and at least 3 pitchers. The mets have the pieces but compared to what others may be offering those pieces are like plan B or even C for the Twins. I say both yanks and red soxs don’t get santana. It will be the loser of the Miguel Cabrera trade race (dodgers or Angels). My Guess is the Mets get a Haren or Bedard.
Wow, way to copy Dierkes word for word.
Obviously he should have credited his source, but im pretty sure he was just posting it for people to read, not to take credit for it as if it was his own thoughts.
OK, I know this thread isn’t about Santana, but the rest of the blog is so, hey why not.
Anybody who thinks the Mets are going to give up 3 or 4 prospects and then turn around and give Santana 6 years $150 million is CLINICALLY INSANE!
Has anybody that writes or reads this blog been watching the New York Mets over the past 25 years?????????????? I know I have and hell will freeze over before Freddie Coupons and the Discount Family writes a check that big.
Just forget Santana now, this is typical Mets propaganda designed to make fans think this Organization is willing to make such a commitment, they never have and they never will. Not to a pitcher anyway.
Let’s just hope they get a reliable starting pitcher sometime this winter.
I see your point InsaneMetsFan but don’t bash this team for not spending money. They spent the second most amount of cash since 2000 (1st being the yankees). You have to think not if we are spending money, its if we are investing in good players, which we aren’t. Since Omar came here he exile these players and made a few mistakes himself but I feel the Santana is obtainable but its up to our rivals to offer less to make our offer decent. You can’t say we didn’t try or its for good PR. At the end I feel we will get a Haren or Bedard type.
Sebaz, are you sure the Mets aren’t 3rd behind the Yanks and Red Sox??
At any rate, it not about how much they spend, it about how much they don’t spend. For example, in 2006 this Organization had the luxury of 6 home playoff games that netted then at least $75 million. Was that money then reinvested into the 2007 team or back into the Wilpons pockets???
I’d say it went into the Wilpon’s pockets, unless you count giving Alou $8 million, Valentin a couple million, El Duque $12 million, Mota $5 million, and Scheonweis $10 million as reinvesting in the team.
My biggest problem is essentially Omar Minaya. Teams like the Yankees have access to the same group of available pitchers as anyone else, but when they become available the Yankees grab them. Plain and simple.
Omar and the Mets just seem to talk a good game. They are always “in” on the available impact players but always seem to have an excuse for not closing the deals. Enough about how great the Met prospects are. It’s a bunch of crap. The Twins are entertaining an offer from the Yanks for the best pitcher in baseball, and the Yanks are offering a pitching prospect and Melky Freakin Cabrera.
And instead of being involved, Omar is in the Dominican Republic somewhere doing God knows what.
Wake up, Omar. I don’t want to see Livan Hernandez on this team while the buffoons across town are sporting A-Rod and Johan Santana.
From your lips to Gods ears CW!!

omar is CRAZY if he thinks gomez, guerra, and mulvey would net him not only haren but also kiko calero.
omar…another day is gone. time is ticking away.

According to eddie C the twins have asked the mets for only position players but the mets won’t include fernando martinez. which is ridiculous! were just talking bout a good pitcher or just an ace BUT THE BEST SP OF THIS GENERATION!
Just say no to falling into the Mets Santana-propaganda parade. He’s not coming, ’cause the Mets aren’t paying.
“I’m just saying”
You’re just saying what?
