My biggest problem is essentially Omar Minaya. Teams like the Yankees have access to the same group of available pitchers as anyone else, but when they become available the Yankees grab them. Plain and simple.

Omar and the Mets just seem to talk a good game. They are always “in” on the available impact players but always seem to have an excuse for not closing the deals. Enough about how great the Met prospects are. It’s a bunch of crap. The Twins are entertaining an offer from the Yanks for the best pitcher in baseball, and the Yanks are offering a pitching prospect and Melky Freakin Cabrera.

And instead of being involved, Omar is in the Dominican Republic somewhere doing God knows what.

Wake up, Omar. I don’t want to see Livan Hernandez on this team while the buffoons across town are sporting A-Rod and Johan Santana.

At any rate, it not about how much they spend, it about how much they don’t spend. For example, in 2006 this Organization had the luxury of 6 home playoff games that netted then at least $75 million. Was that money then reinvested into the 2007 team or back into the Wilpons pockets???

I’d say it went into the Wilpon’s pockets, unless you count giving Alou $8 million, Valentin a couple million, El Duque $12 million, Mota $5 million, and Scheonweis $10 million as reinvesting in the team.

I see your point InsaneMetsFan but don’t bash this team for not spending money. They spent the second most amount of cash since 2000 (1st being the yankees). You have to think not if we are spending money, its if we are investing in good players, which we aren’t. Since Omar came here he exile these players and made a few mistakes himself but I feel the Santana is obtainable but its up to our rivals to offer less to make our offer decent. You can’t say we didn’t try or its for good PR. At the end I feel we will get a Haren or Bedard type.

OK, I know this thread isn’t about Santana, but the rest of the blog is so, hey why not.

Anybody who thinks the Mets are going to give up 3 or 4 prospects and then turn around and give Santana 6 years $150 million is CLINICALLY INSANE!

Has anybody that writes or reads this blog been watching the New York Mets over the past 25 years?????????????? I know I have and hell will freeze over before Freddie Coupons and the Discount Family writes a check that big.

Just forget Santana now, this is typical Mets propaganda designed to make fans think this Organization is willing to make such a commitment, they never have and they never will. Not to a pitcher anyway.

Let’s just hope they get a reliable starting pitcher sometime this winter.
