Mets COO Jeff Wilpon took a group of area writers and team executives on a tour of the quickly progressing Citi Field today.
Don Burke of the Star Ledger reports on his blog that the Mets will open the 2009 season on the road to insure that everything is ready for the home opener, but will likely play an exhibition game at the new stadium before the regular season begins.
Adam Rubin of the Daily News provides some nifty pictures of today’s tour at his blog.
Meanwhile, at his blog for Newsday, David Lennon adds detailed insight of the tour.
…by the way, any guesses on who made the crack about where Manny Acta’s office would be…too funny…

More importantly, did Jeff say where Manny’s office was going to be?
nice to know the mets coo is focusing on pitching. This was probably done to get people’s attention away from the sps because the mets know they have no shot.
If we are gonna start next season on the road and started last season on the road, why are we starting THIS season on the road? SOMEBODY needs to hold MLB accountable for the inequities and inconsistencies in the schedules from year-to-year.
nice to know the mets started last year without an ace, ended last season without an ace and starting this season without an ace.
…and ending this season without an ace, and starting next season…
also nice to know mets started last year with an incompetent manager, ended last season with a dummy manager, and started/ ended this season with a moron of a manager….. and starting next season with a manager who is still “learning”
I’m wondering how many will In Omar We Trust shirts have been sold lately.
Unbelievable.
Do any of you understand how difficult it is to trade for an ace? Teams don’t just give these guys away.
Squad, I’m with you. It seems like people expect Omar to be able to trade Pelfrey straight up for Santana.
Let me play devil’s advocate here. If everyone here is jumping to get rid of Pelfrey, Milledge, and F-Mart in every deal, do you think other GM’s are eager to pick them up? Highly unlikely. When you make a trade proposal, there better be a player (or 2) in there that you really don’t want to give up.
I’m of the opinion that keeping Pelfrey would be the way to go. I know I’m the minority, but we can’t gut the farm, youth, and depth of a team that lacks it already. I say give the kids a chance this season. We can’t afford a disaster, but there are plenty of veterans and stud players on this team to get the job done. Make or break year for the jacket in terms of getting Pelfrey to where I really believe he can be…a #2 starter.
“Rat-face” Jeff knows all the secret nooks and crannies of CitiField already. He’s going to have so much fun terrorizing the stadium employees there.
does he wear an usher’s hat when he gives these tours? It seems to be his prime responsibility.
Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy….wonder how hard those seats overhanging RF are gonna be to get…….How great is that that the highest seat is level with the currrent mezzanine at Shea. Sucks so many won’t get in as much as they would like to, but dems the breaks….at least we probably wont have to deal with THIS…
