Buzz: A’s are Shopping Dan Haren

In his latest update for SI.com, citing ‘league sources,’ Jon Heyman, the A’s have started calling teams, including the Mets, Red Sox and Yankees, to gauge interest in RHP Dan Haren.

According to Heyman, the A’s are seeking a similar deal for Haren as the Twins are seeking for LHP Johan Santana.

Unlike Santana, who can be a free agent after next season, Haren is under contract and due $16.25 million through 2010, assuming his $6.75 million option for 2010 is exercised.

Lastly, Heyman writes, ‘The A’s also will consider offers for their other top pitchers, including Joe Blanton and Rich Harden.’

…as i wrote yesterday, and earlier this morning, there is more and more buzz out of Oakland suggesting that the A’s will not seriously field offers for haren until the Twins make a decision on Johan Santana…once santana is set, the A’s will first consider moving haren, followed by Joe Blanton, who is still arbitration eligible…

Heyman continues on to provide details on similar packages for Santana, and how they could impact the market in Oakland.

A’s shopping Dan Haren? Wow! That’s news to me! Thanks Heyman.

Can someone please get the Delorean going 88MPH so we can just fastforward to the part where we deal for Blanton and sign Livan so we can all get passed this Johan, Bedard and Haren madness?

Again, stay away from Haren. He will cost what Santana does because he is locked up for more years at a cheap price and is younger.
Look this year for salary dumps and reclamation projects. If you trade for an A’s pitcher make it HarDen or for relief help in Kiko Calero. Their values are at an all time low. I am sure Beane knows this too and if he is unwilling to trade them, move on.

Go for Blanton sign Livan rotation good enough… Harden injury risk. Haren cost too much

exactly. Beane a master at evaluating talent and knows when to max value and trade his pitching.

Here’s my question. Why is Beane looking to unload a young, ace-level starter, with an under-market contract that has three years left on it. Hmmm….is 07 as good as it gets with Haren?

Seriously, aside from the strikeouts and Blanton’s high era in 06, the difference between Haren and Blanton is minimal. Especially considering the price for Haren compared with Blanton. I say if the the price is too high for Haren, Santana, or Bedard, screw it! Get Blanton and that’s that. I’m sick of all this already.

milledge traded for schneider and ryan church??????

the more I think about this, the more I won’t be crushed if we don’t land one of these guys…since it will apparently require Omar to rape the orginization to get it done. This is depressing, and makes me lament 06 even more.

Maddog just came on the air on WFAN during Joe and Evan’s show and said that the Mets have dealt Milledge to the Nats for Brian Schneider and Ryan Church. I am not kidding and I dont think he was either!!!!! Did anyone else hear this?

rustysribs November 30, 2007 at 12:55 pm

I heard the same thing. It’s a head scratcher

Alban November 30, 2007 at 12:55 pm

I like Haren, but he isn’t worth a Santana package. I’m not sure Santana is worth a Santana package. There is a reason that the Red Sox and Yankees are the only ones bidding for him…. to keep him from the other team. If Santana was in Toronto getting traded somewhere other than the AL East, the price would come way, way down.

stoney November 30, 2007 at 12:55 pm

Yes I heard it and, while Schneider is fine, I don’t understand why we couldn’t get a little more for Milledge. oh well

Slob November 30, 2007 at 2:49 pm

Schneider isn’t fine. He’s a zero with the bat.
