The Brewers are close to signing RHP David Riske to a multi-year deal, according to ESPN.com, ‘citing a club source.’
Riske, 31, had a 2.45 ERA in 65 games for the Royals last season.
…i wouldn’t have minded if the Mets took a risk on riske…
…added to by Matthew Cerrone…
…the Brewers are clearly freaking out after losing Francisco Cordero and Scott Linebrink in the span of the week, and i’m guessing they do not view the landmark acquisition of Guillermo Mota as any sort of solution…imagine that…
…nevertheless, if linebrink reeled in a four-year deal, and riske rejected a two-year deal from the Royals, it stands to reason that the Brewers must be offering a three-year deal, or four, for riske, which is a lot…
The 31–year-old Riske has made 393 relief appearances during his eight-year career, during which he has a 3.40 ERA while opponents have hit .231 against him. His ERA was below 3.00 last season for the first time since 2003.
…i know there had been people who screamed for the Mets to sign him…the thing is, as i have said before, i can’t shake this bad feeling about chasing relievers around the league, hoping they duplicate the previous season’s success, all while locking them in to long-term deals, which the Mets said they were against last off-season, as a justification for not re-signing Chad Bradford, though they did sign mota and Scott Schoeneweis to long-term deals…i just don’t trust any one reliever any more, and certainly not enough for more than one season…
