…if the Mets have any shot at acquiring Johan Santana from the Twins, one of two things must happen…either, a) the Mets will need to bring in a third team, to make it a three-way trade, or b) santana will need to decide that he only wants to play for the Mets, and demand a trade to queens…otherwise, it’s not looking good, since many, many signs are suggesting that santana’s ticket may already be punched for boston…

Who cares about Johan?? We got Brian Scheinder and a platoon OF who can’t hit lefties!
What great week to be a Met fan.. from dreaming of Santana.. to pissing away one your main trade pieces by Friday.
In the past 4 hours the following 3 domains were all purchased:

I guess i’m in the minority when I say I do not want this deal to happen.
I know, I know…I’ve watched Johan him pitch. I see the obvious dominance, but unloading the farm and signing a 29 pitcher to a 6year/150MIL dollar deal with no trade protection just sounds like one of those deals that could just be crippling.
The only chance the Mets have in getting Santana is if his name is Rafael and he wants to be the backup SS for the Mets this year. LOL
I don’t want to see another Santana post on Metsblog. Matt- we’re not getting him, ok, we understand. Enough of this none-sense. Let’s discuss trades that are realistic…
amen brother…
I love this organization.
Anyone want to join me in picketing outside Shea Stadium?
Don’t worry…Livan Hernandez and Carlos Silva are on their way here. :)
Why oh why must my team always be the joke franchise?
im a knicks and raiders fan also, three jokes my friend.
and btw im not laughing
Better Boston than The Bronx
I HATE BOSTON!!! I thought it was great in 2004 when they won, but, the Red Sox fans are worse than Yankee fans!! I cant take it. F&*K BOSTON!!!! As far as pitching goes we did get rid of Tommy G, and that will help us in 2 ways. It will make the Braves rotation older and it will allow us to get younger. I feel that with Pedro back we wont really miss TG. Remember that TG was our ace in 2007 and Pedro only piched what 6 games? With a healthy Pedro back we wont miss his 15 wins and may win more than that with Pedro. Also we can sign a younger arm that will go deeper in games and be more reliable than TG. I feel that TG will be forever linked to that final game of 2007 and his 1/3 inning blowout!! His name will be mentioned in the same sentance as Armando B and Mo Vaughn.
I hope Castillo has some pull with him because he certainly is not coming here due to the exciting and think outside the box GM who is currently running the METS into the land of Mediocrity
and then when the Mets get Bedard for Estrada straight up you will be awe-stricken!
Well, at least it’s a helluva lot better than him landing in the Bronx. In the event Boston can work out a trade with the Twins, he’ll probably sign a long term deal with them as who wouldn’t want to be with an organization that is considered right now the best in baseball. But nothing is done yet. Are the Twins really going to accept just Crisp and Lester plus prospects? I find that hard to believe.
Me too. Coco Crisp!?!?!?! Is he really all that much better than Church, who is worth less than Milledge?
Don’t worry I’m sure Omar will trade David Wright and Jose Reyes for Santana, then trade him to the Nationals for Nook Logan. Can someone please remind this guy what team he works for?
Any chance Johan Santana is a life long Met fan?
Oh yeah, he grew up watching Kiner’s Korner with A-Rod.
Ralph Kiner is my President!
Geez Matt, could you be more redundant, did you write that Monty Python skit?
another year, another terrible off season.
another year of being the butt of NL jokes.
thanks omar, another stellar trade.
Some of the old timers saw it coming…
we’ve been verbally beatin’ and spate upon for asking fellow fans to get real and stop pipedreamin’…
but in the end, all I can say is
“I told ya so….”
Steve Traschel is a free agent
Its great that the same people that were callig Reyes immature, and a joke, etc..now crown Milledge as the second coming of WIllie Mays….
for all of those people that say gomez is better than milledge is delusional. look at their numbers in the minors:
gomez:.278/.339/.399/.738 18hrs/139rbi
millz: .305/.385/.479/.864 34hrs/163rbi
but here’s the kicker: gomez:1291 at-bats
millz:1173 at-bats
gomez can’t hit.period. omar is gonna trade everyone that he didn’t sign
Perhaps Boston would turn around Santana for a couple Martinez’.
Pedro and F. Martinez for Santana. Sox are good enough to win the WS without Santana, Pedro has a chance* to be a 15 game winner, and the Boston fans would kill to have Pedro for a 1 year stint. Meanwhile, FMart could become a replacement for Manny in a few years time. Part of what makes this work is that the Sox can afford to gamble on Pedro/Schilling at number 3, while the Mets can’t afford to gamble on Pedro as a number 1.
On the Mets end, they get Santana as their number 1, to replace Glavine’s production, although they lose Pedro and their best prospect. It’s seem’s like a tough deal for either team to swallow, but it could work out for both.
what????? Boston trades for Santana then flips him to us?? Come on man what is that
Seriously, you gotta be kidding….
Let him go to Boston please.
The Mets aren’t getting him, so the next best thing is that the Yankees get screwed over.
ALthough the LM deal signals that Omar only cares about saving his job in 2008, the futre be darned, so he probably wil ship out every other prospect now. Welcome to 2001!
A line up of:
Reyes
Castillo
DW
Beltran
Alou
Delgado
Church
Schnielder
Isn’t going to scare anyone. 2 guys that can’t hit at all or have 0 power (Castillo and Schneider), a mediocre .260 hitter with minimal pop (CHurch, aka Green part Ii).
THat is 3/8 black holes, good for maybe 20 HRs combineds, and a .260 average.
Add in another year from Delgado with long offensive funks, and you can easily have long periods of time where only, at most, 3-4 guys are hitting even a little bit.
And when Delgado is off, a 6-9 of Delgado, Chruch, Schnieds, P is as close to 4 automatic outs as you are going to get.
Well, at least they traded their only ML ready prospect for pitching help to try and overcome the offensive deficiencies!
Oh, wait, never mind.
THis team just doesn’t look like it will score many runs. And if Alou goes down for an extended time, enjoy averaging 2.3 runs per game again.
I posted this elsewhere, but Church hits like Willie Mays at Shea Stadium. Small sample size, though.
so remind me again why there were people on this blog a month ago saying “we dont need arod, our offense is fine”.
Oh, since I couldn’t get this blog to work before, I had to post my frustrated ramblings on dlecos.
So in case you missed them, this was a horrible, horrible deal that will haunt them for years. Kazmirian proportions.
Fire. Omar.. Now.. Before he comeplelte kills the team.
WIllie and Omar can make plenty of tee times for July since they will likely have the month off.
church is not an automatic out … im not crazy about him, but he is far from a auto out … now please compare our 6-9 to every NL team
take a few minutes please and do it……
Schneider is a downgrade from loduca , who by the way, wasn ot very good last year … and church is not much of a downgrade from GREEN …. so how does that compute to losing 3 runs per game from last year?
