Well said Napes22. Me and my family have been bleeding for this team since 1973. In the realm of the possible there is no way the Mets should consider a move that includes Reyes or Wright. For anyone. The Mets need tweaking, not wholesale reconstruction. Guys that young and that good are part of the long term and should not be considered "chips" to be played in that stupid we must win now / we must compete with Bronx Corporation mindset that can only lead to doing stupid things.

I think if Omar wanted to use Gomez as the marquee name in the deal, it would have had to have been before the Twins traded their SS away.

I agree about the overall solid nature of the team, and that they certainly can win in 2007.

I think the reference to 5th starter wasn't that it was their ceiling (which it isn't), just that it is the spot they would be filling in 2007. Or just that they would have 4, and you need a 5th!

what plan is Omar talking about?? Yes he has a few core guys(Wright,Beltran,Reyes) but he adds old injury prone players to compliment the core players. On another note, the packages offered from the Sox and Yankees are a freakin joke. Kennedy,Melky, and Tabata or Crisp,Lester,Lowrie and Masterson. It sounds like Omar doesnt want to trade Gomez or else we could probably trump the other offers.

that is clearly the dumbest thing i've ever heard in my life. By far, the stupidest trade idea OF ALL TIME, posted on this site.
I think if we trade wright, reyes, maine, ollie, f-mart, and l-millz, we could get johan and maybe nathan..we might have to throw in castillo, estrada, wagner and heilman. And pelfrey. And humber and mulvey. And our next 5 first round draft picks. And our sandwich pick from Glavine. And cash considerations. That might get it done

I don't even know why this ever became a rumor. The Twins want Reyes, there is no way we would ever trade him. It's amazing how quickly forget about the year he had in 2006, or even the 1st half he had in 2007. He's still a kid, and he had a rough half year.

What kills me even more is people calling up radio shows and saying "trade reyes for hanley ramirez, or package him for rollins." What will that accomplish, and what GM would actually do that?

The "new" Mets fans will continue to bother me in this way. The group of fans that were nowhere to be found before 2006, and now think the team owes them something.

Whr do you assume that Pelfrey, or Humber for that matter, will be only 5th starters? Give these kids a chance. I really think Pelfrey has a chance to be something special, especially if he figures out how to harness his fastball. His best outing last year, the one hitter against the Braves, was awesome. He was topping out at about 91-92 and throwing a hard sinker. If he ever develops a third pitch he has a chance to be something really special.

Sometimes I wonder why people bother being Mets fans, all they do is bash guys continually. This team is still solid, and they have a chance to win next year (yes, I know it's not as good as the chance they had in '06).

Why get rid of one of your stud players (Reyes) to get a guy who only plays once every 5 days? It's absurd to think about.

I'm curious, are the Mets offices completed in Citi Field now that they're meeting with reporters there? I know it was the first thing they aimed to finish, but i'm curious if they officially moved now?

It seems if the Mets are looking to open onthe road in 2009, it'll be three years in a row opening on the road, which is kind of lame. I always enjoy being at the first game of the season. The Yankees are also opening a new stadium, why not let them worry about 'getting the stadium ready' and open on the road?
