It's roughly 28 mill more. However, their Luxury Tax payroll is roughly the same as the Mets because the Mets have a lot of players on the front of backloaded contracts and the Red Sox don't. And it's the LT payroll that is limiting team's spending. Unlike the Yankees, I believe the Red Sox do have concerns with repeatedly exceeding LT thresholds by huge amounts. The time machine is a long sought after invention and could be used for a multitude of reasons. In this case, go back in time and offer Cy Young a contract of $1 Million over 10 years. Crazy? Of course not! Cy Young would love to have made $100K a year. He would have been the richest man in baseball. So you go back to his first year in baseball, sign him, warp him back to 2007, then let him start winning the award named after him. Once Cy Young is pitching and making tons of money for your team, you then license out the rights to the time machine and make even more money off of it.
