The Boston Globe is reporting that Mike Timlin has reached a one year deal to remain with the Red Sox for around $3 million.
Timlin turns 42-years-old in March and pitched in 50 games last season, compiling a record of 2-1 with an ERA of 3.42 while recording 1 save and 8 holds.

while this isnt a deal the Mets could have made (it likely would have taken two years to get him away from Boston) it is a little alarming how little they have done with the pen. They dont seem to have an interest in any of the free agents out there.
Last offseason Omar concentrated on about 20 starters, ended up with none of them, and then all that was left in the pen was Schoeneweis. Looks like the same thing is happening again this offseason.
there isn’t much out there for the pen that deosn’t require too much talent in trade, or way too long a contract.
He got roasted for Schoe, so you think 4 years, 19mill would have gone over big for Linebrink?
They should have plenty of decent guys competing in ST. Incumbants, rehabs (Sanchez), young bucks (Kunz, that USC guy), starters without a home (Humber, Pelf, El Duque).
Sure, pick up someone good if they can, otherwise sift through what they have, and try to grab a live arm off the waiver wire.
