The Padres and Jake Peavy are close to a three-year extension that would pay him $17 million per season, reports Ken Rosenthal at FOXSports.com.
According to the report, Peavy’s extension would start in 2010 and could include an option for 2013.
…so, considering what he is set to earn between now and then, plus the new deal, he will essentially be locked up, starting next season, with a six-year, $83 million deal, which is very similar to the home-town discounts signed to by Roy Oswalt in houston and Chris Carpenter in st. louis…so, good for him and the Padres…

This is why you can’t wait around for these aces to simply “only cost money next year”…..they may never get to free agency!!!!!
Clearly, the best solution is developing your own aces…..but yeah, we don’t have any of those…..so Omar needs to go out and get a Haren or Bedard and worry about the farm system afterwards.
Bedard.
This is a big reason that Pelfrey has to be considered practically untouchable., You have to give the big arms in your organization a chance to develop, even if they scuffle a bit for the first couple of years.
Hey, Bedard didn’t do all that hot his first few years either. Sometimes it takes a little time to harness and refine the talent, and to mature into solid players.
Anyone remember Nolan Ryan?
