At the MLB Experts Blog for Yahoo!, reporting from Nashville, Steve
Henson explains that talks between the Dodgers and Marlins regarding 3B Miguel Cabrera, just as they have with the Angels.
According to Henson, the Marlins want OF Matt Kemp, 1B James Loney and LHP Clayton Kershaw.
…what has gotten in to the Marlins…it reminds me of the Chuck Lamar days in Tampa Bay…i mean, why not ask for Tommy Lasorda while they’re at it…
Henson also provides info on the relief-pitching market, and whether the Rangers may trade 3B Hank Blalock.

Even for Cabrera, thats just ridiculous. No way the Dodgers even consider that. Those are three young studs.
And Cabrera is one of the 5 best hitters in the game
As Derrick Coleman once said “Whup-de-damn-do”. Loney and Kemp will be Cabrera-type players within the next three years and Kershaw is a top end of the rotation starter.
Considering that Cabrera will get $200 million from his new team and that those three Dodgers prospects are locked up for little money over the next five years, its not even close to an even swap.
Throw in Cabrera’s obvious battle with french fries and there are a lot of reasons to know that the Dodgers are getting ripped off. Even for Cabrera.
Really? Considering that you’re the only person I have ever heard say that about Kemp and Loney, I find that statement slightly dubious. Most scouts project Loney as a high average, low power hitter. Kemp reamins a player with good, not great, power and speed, who had a 3 to 1 strikeout to walk ratio in the minors. Kershaw, who has the stuff to be a top of the rotation guy, still has only pitched 5 games at AA.
A funny note about Cabrera though. His Baseball reference page has his weight at 185. I’m guessing his other foot was on the floor at the time.
Where does Tommy play?
I’d be interested to see what the Dodgers would entertain for Loney.
You don’t ask, you don’t get. Who knows how desperate any other team is. I wouldn’t make that deal if I’m the Dodgers, but you can’t fault FLA for asking. Maybe they get close to that.
If Omar could find a way to get Loney and get rid of Delgado, that would be awesome.
3-way deal? Loney and Dontrelle to the Mets. Delgado, Cabrera, and Pelfrey to the Dodgers. Gomez, Kershaw, and Gotay to the Marlins.
Dodgers get to keep Matt Kemp, whom they love. They have the payroll flexibility to add Delgado. Mets give up Delgado, Pelfrey, Gotay, and Gomez…I could live with that. Marlins get a high ceiling prospect OF (the CF they have been searching for years for), a good young infielder (possibly move Uggla to 3B and play Gotay everday at 2B), and a stud pitching prospect.
May be far-fetched, but Omar likes getting creative with these things.
it dosnt hurt to ask if they end up with 2 of those guys im sure theyll consider it a win for them.
Starting a post with the heading “Buzz: The Marlins want a lot for Cabrerra” is equivalent to a news story that starts, “This just in . . . Kids like ice cream”.
haha
Here is a nice 4 part idea of mine ….Go ahead and doubt it will work..I am sure im way off but at this point the Mets are said to be interested in everybody..so why not??
A) Trade Gomez, Church,Heilmann, Humber, Mulvey & Vineyard .. for the best pitcher they can get (Bedard/Kazmir/Lee, whatever maybe trade less guys if we can)
B) Convince Beltran his legs and career in NYC will hold up better if he shifts to RF.
C)Sign A. Jones to a 2 year 40 million dollar deal to play center and bat 7th
D)Propose offers to Dotel,Mahay, and Guardado..Im sure one of those guys would be a solid set up man to go along with Duaner.
You people are talking like you smoke crack. Cabrera is a top 5 hitter in the game. The Marlins have every right to ask for a huge package in return.
I’m sorry but Beinfest is going to do his due dilligence. We’re not talking about trading Lastings Milledge here folks. The Marlins just don’t throw away talent for nothing in return.
Thanks for having my back. Cabrera is this decade’ s Manny Ramirez. He will hit when he is sleeping, He will hit when he’s awake. He will hit if he’s been bad or good, he will hit for goodness sake. He’ll also hit while sining “I’m into nuggets ya’ll”. The point is, this guy will always hit
But will he say Ketchup and Maaaayoooo, Ketchup and Maaaayooooo. Or will he just say Maaaaayoooooo? If it’s just Maaaayooooo, the Dodgers will have to work out a hefty contract…no pun intended.
Just avoid the special sauce
It all sounds like sour grapes on the part of Cerrone. It’s ok Matt, you guys can’t trade for EVERYONE.
