…i don’t know if it’s the ping-pong one-upping going on between the Yankees and Red Sox, or the Yankees threat to call off negotiations
after today, but there is more and more buzz coming from Nashville suggesting that the Twins may just sit on Johan Santana, take more time to work out an extension, and have him for opening day next season…
…of course, this could just be a retaliatory threat from the Twins through the media, in hopes of motivating the Yankees and Twins to pull the trigger…

This may more be a reaction to the Andy Pettite signing and the fact that the Red Sox don’t seem desperate enough to give two top pieces away to keep Santana off the Yankees.
santana has already said that he waive his no trade during the season.
there is no way that the twins will give 30-40% of their payroll to 1 player over the next 6 seasons. They still have morneau, mauer, cuddyer, d.young and nathan to pay for.
I think this is a great development. At this time anything that will give the Mets more time to put something together (including rebounding some prospects) is a good thing
Wow, it sure would be nice to have Milledge have a red hot April to use for a trade. Oh shiznit, L-Millz be bending knees in D to C now.
For all the reasons to dislike the Milledge trade, potentially using him in a Santana swap isn’t one of them. What would the Twins do with another corner OF? They already have to DH one to make room for Young.
4get Johan..never gonna happen.
Here is a nice 4 part idea of mine ….Go ahead and doubt it will work..I am sure im way off but at this point the Mets are said to be interested in everybody..so why not??
A) Trade Gomez, Church,Heilmann, Humber, Mulvey & Vineyard .. for the best pitcher they can get (Bedard/Kazmir/Lee, whatever maybe trade less guys if we can)
B) Convince Beltran his legs and career in NYC will hold up better if he shifts to RF.
C)Sign A. Jones to a 2 year 40 million dollar deal to play center and bat 7th
D)Propose offers to Dotel,Mahay, and Guardado..Im sure one of those guys would be a solid set up man to go along with Duaner
Even better, have Scott Boras convince Beltran to move.
Won’t happen. Beltran has HOF numbers as a CF, but I think he would borderline as a corner.
Assuming a healthy Liriano, keeping Santana would give the Twinkies the best 1-2 punch this side of Johnson/Schilling circa 2001…If they do keep him, there is every chance that Minny is in contention all year…If only they started hitting.
All I hear is, “blah, blah, blah, we need to move on.” Please do. This is annoying…
I am so sick of hearing about Santana. The Twins should keep him and shut up about a trade already. gosh!
I am sick of hearing about him too, and starting pitching for that matter. That said G-D would be a Mets fan if the Twins decide to keep him.
Does it even matter what the Yankees say anymore. They have proven time after time that their threats are hollow and will go back on their word.
What if the Mets offered Fernando Martinez to the Dodgers for Andy LaRoache? He might be more appealing to the Marlins than LaRoache, maybe they could save Kemp or Loney. LaRoache and Gomez would give the Mets two very viable position prospects for the Twins to consider.
