Oh, but they could’ve traded him for Haren! That’s what the rumors told me was going to happen! The D-Backs are doomed.

seems like the kind of trade you make because a team you are trying to trade with for a SP wants a 1B instead of an OF prospect and you dont want to part with your own 1B prospect.

Doesnt really make sense for the D’backs with Conor Jackson already there otherwise.

Or they consider Jackson a failure with the bat. OR they are waiting for rising value before trading Carter.

Carter is years away from the majors… no threat or competition with Connor Jackson

I don’t think Arizona’s all that impressed with Conor Jackson; he definitely has below-average power for a 1B.
I think this deal gives us a little perspective on what pitching will cost in this market– much like the Mets with Milledge, Arizona wanted to get pitching back for Quentin but couldn’t find an appealing option.

Good point, Arizona is one of the darlings of the faction of the baseball world that loves the teams who rebuild and let their young players work out their growing pains at the MLB level.

If some of their young talent won’t nail down a quality SP (and I imagine they’re not even looking for a bona fide ace, more like a solid #2 since they’ve got Webb already).

Smart move by both teams. The ChiSox avoid having to overpay for the likes of Rowand and Jones. The D-Backs have some fallback incase Connor Jackson doesn’t pan out.
