I would agree with you, except that Reyes and Wright both came up with losing teams. Since the team has started contending again, the younger players have had a much shorter leash. That's the only way Brian Lawrence got so many starts down the stretch.

what i don't understand is how matt kemp and jonathan broxton gets this deal done for the dodgers, but some sort of combination among gomez/heilman/church/humber/pelfrey/fmart won't do it for the mets. same with johan. the sox have a superior package to anything we could put together, but melky cabrera was about to be a centerpiece in a yankees deal for santana.

melky's such a scrub - his ceiling is ryan church, right now. the yankees young players all get collectively fellated by the media while our prospects are put down. i don't get it and it's extremely frustrating.

Did I miss something? What have the Braves or Phillies done to make us so clearly a third place team? Is Brad Lidge that much of a difference maker?

Your terms of analysis are absolutely correct, but I disagree in one respect.

When trading a guy like Bedard, a team would rather have one or two "A" players than a dozen "B+" players. That's the way I would look at it, anyway. That's why so many Mets fans are lukewarm on Ryan Church. They want a blockbuster guy. Unless we have "A" players to deal, we're going to have to set our sights on something less glamorous than Bedard.

I read a piece suggesting that Omar may turn to relievers at this point to give him what he can't get in the starters market. I have no idea who that would be. Maybe Rauch or Cordero.

that is 4 teams with all these chips. And it is debatable about the Yankees.

So basically, the Mets are inthe same boat as 90% of the teams in MLB.

THe couple of teams that end up loaded with ML ready prospects are the anomoly, not the MEts.

In a couple of years, the Mets could be inthat position with Guerra, F Mart, etc.

“One of the recurring themes of this offseason has been teams’ floating the names of all kinds of pitchers you’d never think they’d trade, just to see what sort of response they get. Well, here’s another one: Pittsburgh’s Ian Snell. Teams that have talked to the Pirates say they’re in the midst of a monstrous internal debate about whether they’d be willing to at least dangle Snell, a major 26-year-old talent who had more quality starts this year (22) than Santana or Roy Oswalt and a better strikeout rate (7.66 per 9 innings) than Carlos Zambrano or Ben Sheets.” - Jayson Stark on November 21, 2007

Make it happen Omar.
