The White Sox wanted Masterson for Dye last year, so he's no slouch - 6'6", 250 with 9.16K/9 innings in AA ...Lowrie's a solid middle infield prospect with pop...Lester was a lefty Hughes before the cancer...Crisp's a GG caliber centerfielder. Young, controllable LH & RH starting pitching & young defense up the middle – it's not a a bad trade for Minnesota. They aren't the spectacular names, but it's a solid package. Chalk it up to Boston - they scout and develop players extremely well, and this is the result.

Yeah, playing the playoffs would be absolutely pointless if this happens. As much as I hate the Yankees, this is kind of crappy for baseball, the Red Sox are going to be unstoppable for awhile now.

But that is how you see the players. The GM's in baseball see them much different. We always overvalue our own prospects and downplay others.

Lester has 2/1 potential. And he's flashed it in the AL East. Like somebody said above, he is stil considered a top flight prospect. Much better than anything we can offer

Crisp fills an immediate 2008 need at a good rate.

Lowrie is their starting SS. Another need filled.

Heck, at this point Masterson might have as much value around the league as Pelphrey, and certainly more than Humber. Right in line with Mulvey possibly.

We just can't fill alll those needs for the Twins. Or really any team. None of our guys step in and can absolutely fill a
2008 need for a MLB club.

Eating salary is the best we've got going for us. Hopefully the Orioles want that kind of help and we can land Bedard.

My thinking is you're giving up Gomez, Heilman and Pelfrey for someone else's Maine, when you mention Snell. Maybe I'm way off, but I think Maine is very undervalued by the fans. Why give up what you already have?

If those guys will bring you Bedard, do it, even add someone, and keep Maine.

Pedro, Bedard, Maine, Perez, Colon????
(Gooden, Darling, Ojeda, El Sid, Aquilera)

That is a rock solid rotation, with youth, experience and upside, all rolled together and can be held together long term with OUR money going forward.

That is a garbage offer..are you kidding? And they are making us give REYES?!! Lester continually works to a whip in the 1.50-1.65 range and walks the ballpark. Crisp is a slug- cannot hit his way out of a paperbag. Milledge (stupid trade Minaya...see!) packaged with Pelfrey, Mulvey wold have been better than this stupid Boston deal...plus they'd be getting him out of the AL. And you could give them Gotay- they need a 2B. If the Twins make this trade and keep him in the AL, etc., their GM should be fired.

The keys to this deal are not Crisp and Lester, but are Lowrie and Masterson. The Twins like Lowrie and Masterson much more than they liked the back end of any Yankee package. They probably feel that Lester is worth a little less than Philip Hughes, but that the difference isn't that great. Crisp is relatively cheap, and plays a pretty good defensive CF.

True, then Santana would be the only one under contract and a hefty one at that. Your point is taken, however. Now if they would take Perez instead of Maine then so be it. I just don't think that the Twins want all prospects, they want some MLB ready players.

I get what you are saying but if you lock up Santana and then trade your prospects for a Bedard or Snell then you have a great rotation.
If you could right now trade Gomez, Heilman, and Pelfrey for a #3 with potential would you do it?
If you could trade Maine for Santana would you do it. Again, I think that depends on how you look at it.

For example, I don't want to trade Reyes at all but what if you trade Reyes for Santana then use your prospects to trade for Miggy and an average SS. Is the team better, on paper anyway?

Agreed you can't include Maine. If they want to trade him, they should package the other guys for a SP, then trade Maine to get the prospects back!

And pretty much end up at the same exact place...

Also, keep in mind that Maine is the ONLY one of the 4 Sps set for the rotation that is under contract for 2009. The other 3 are all FAs.

For that reason, if they wanted to trade a SP, Perez is a better option. Someone would be desperate enough to give some real talent back for him.
