Trade Lube + Hotel Suite = Omar and Andy in “Bed”ard

Blue_n_Orange December 4, 2007 at 12:44 pm

He means Omar is going to take it in the rear in order to make a deal.

GravediggerHebner December 4, 2007 at 12:45 pm

geez whatever happened to a meal and some pleasant conversation?

metsman69 December 4, 2007 at 12:47 pm

Oh baby, the TRADE LUBE !!!

Then, Omar, lock the door and dont let them out till they agree to trade you Bedard.

Dont let them even use the john. Tell them they gotta hold it in until a deal is reached.

Oofda oofda !!

mikey_FF December 4, 2007 at 12:49 pm

Wow the winter meetings are making the fans delirious! hahaha

MetNTX December 4, 2007 at 12:56 pm

ravi3 December 4, 2007 at 12:40 pm

**Crosses Fingers**

also, this is going to make me check the site even more than I was before.

rogasm December 4, 2007 at 12:40 pm

I don’t want to get my hopes up, but I am feeling pretty good about this.

MetNTX December 4, 2007 at 1:06 pm

Don’t (feel good or get your hopes up)

metsrbest December 4, 2007 at 12:40 pm

This is the most informative blog out there and you and your staff are doing a great job of keeping up with what is happening in Nashville. Keep up the great work Matt!

born2run01 December 4, 2007 at 12:41 pm

Go…..Go Omar Go Go Go….save Reyes for Santana and F-Mart – the rest, do what you want

Blue_n_Orange December 4, 2007 at 12:41 pm

Let’s go Team Omar!! */* (that’s a cheerleader emoticon)

Blue_n_Orange December 4, 2007 at 12:42 pm

christian warrior December 4, 2007 at 12:43 pm

metsrbest December 4, 2007 at 12:43 pm

I wouldn’t get your hopes on anyone. But if the Mets can get Bedard, prepare for the farm system to be gutted. Which really, I don’t care about. Get Bedard!!!

BlueTrane December 4, 2007 at 12:43 pm

No REYES! what the heck is wrong with you people??

Achilles400 December 4, 2007 at 12:43 pm

You know the Mets are gonna end up with the oterh Oriole starter who throws 100 mph but can’t throw strikes, ie project.

GravediggerHebner December 4, 2007 at 12:46 pm

Daniel Cabrera

metsrbest December 4, 2007 at 12:48 pm

Damn! I bet Cabrera is who they are talking about. :-(

kevin2elster21 December 4, 2007 at 12:44 pm

Our best chances are Bedard. I think he fits well too. Then with this Santana debacle, maybe we can get him cheap at trading deadline or just outbid for him in free agent market.

pezao December 4, 2007 at 12:44 pm

Good luck, Omar!

Hit The Weights Zeile December 4, 2007 at 12:45 pm

please god let this happen….juno what im sayin

Achilles400 December 4, 2007 at 12:48 pm

Achilles400 December 4, 2007 at 12:58 pm

Sorry, someone else was throwing it around yesterday, as Felix Unger said, you shouldn’t assume because you make an …

vinluvr December 4, 2007 at 12:46 pm

we don’t know the significance of a “hotel suite visit”. it could just be a little hair of the dog and some polite rejections.

but if a bedard deal is going down, i would expect the farm to be well and truly gutted. good thing we have the gthree high picks next draft. hope we pick wisely.

kevin2elster21 December 4, 2007 at 12:47 pm

gutted and massacred

MetNTX December 4, 2007 at 12:59 pm

Which i am not in favor of. Leave Bedard alone if it means the farm. We have the $$$$ lets just continue to buy our talent until we build our farm like the Red Sox

Teacherhst December 4, 2007 at 12:47 pm

If Omar comes out of that meeting with a Bradford deal then it will be a big bust. what about Bradford and Bedard. Bradford would be a salary dump for the O’s.

Bedard and Bradford for Humber, Church, Heilmann, Smith, and Mulvey. That helps the O’s bullpen, gives them a decent bat off the bench, and two real good relievers.

ravi3 December 4, 2007 at 12:49 pm

No chance they get Bedard without GOmez in the package. He is the prize

Achilles400 December 4, 2007 at 12:50 pm

stop it, you are killing me. Baltimore is gonna take that Met excriment to save 6 mill of Bradford? Did Apex tech open a GM school recently?

shamsky December 4, 2007 at 12:52 pm

Great comment, couldn’t have said it better!

Jaded1983 December 4, 2007 at 12:47 pm

Great….there goes productivity for the day! lol Thanks Matt!! (my boss thanks you as well, luckily he is a huge Mets fan as well!)

The Second Spitter December 4, 2007 at 12:49 pm

Not that I’d want to see it this, but after reading that the Mets may have to take Tejada and his contract to get Bedard, why not get the Twins involved.

Mets get:

Santana
Bedard
Tejada

O’s get:

Gomez
Heilman
Mulvey

Twins get:

Reyes

I love Reyes, but I’d love a staff of:

Santana
Bedard
Pedro
Maine
Perez

With Tejada at SS even more… because that’s closer to getting us a championship.

Achilles400 December 4, 2007 at 12:51 pm

Another Apex Tech GM school grad!

mikey_FF December 4, 2007 at 12:53 pm

Apex Tech … LOL. Is that where they got the trade lube from?

Achilles400 December 4, 2007 at 12:59 pm

lol

GravediggerHebner December 4, 2007 at 12:55 pm

and we’ll help you find a job after you graduate. Here’s the classified ads, good luck!

dannyb December 4, 2007 at 1:10 pm

We can’t call you…you’ve gotta call us!!! (pointing at the camera)

extrawhitemeat December 4, 2007 at 12:55 pm

Now that made me laugh.. nicely done Achilles..

I really woulnd’t get too wound about this… but after the Milledge deal I’ve lost hope…

christian warrior December 4, 2007 at 12:57 pm

Miguel Tejada + Mitchell Report = No Thank You

terlis December 4, 2007 at 1:06 pm

Dude, this isn’t MLB 2K8! Actually, I doubt you could even do that trade there lol…

boredatwork December 4, 2007 at 1:08 pm

stop dreaming

breadclock December 4, 2007 at 12:51 pm

The best announcement to come out of that hotel suite would be that Omar Minaya (and entourage) has agreed to fill the vacancy Jim Duquette left as Vice President of Baseball Operations for the Baltimore Orioles.

Minaya’s first priority for the Orioles would be to do “whatever it takes to get Ryan Church and Brian Schneider in a Baltimore uniform.”

vinluvr December 4, 2007 at 1:43 pm

LOL!

Teacherhst December 4, 2007 at 12:53 pm

The Orioles lose out in that deal splitter. Getting rid of Bedard and Tejada for Gomez, Heilman, and Mulvey. I don’t think that is going to happen.

christian warrior December 4, 2007 at 1:20 pm

It theoretically could if the Orioles have come to their senses about Tejada and are serious about dumping his salary.

Tejada is garbage without guys like Canseco around. Taking him would be far worse than gutting the system for Bedard.

SurferD December 4, 2007 at 12:54 pm

Bedard, Miggy and DCabrera 4 Heilman, Gomez, Gotay, Humber and PTBNL

this frees up a ton of money for the Os as well

chew13 December 4, 2007 at 12:55 pm

C’mon Jimmy… give us Bedard, Bradford & Hernandez for Heilman, Smith, Schneider, Estrada, either Pelfrey, Humber or Mulvey; and Gomez or Church. Make it happen O’s! Those being Omar and Orioles.

kevin2elster21 December 4, 2007 at 12:56 pm

Taking a step back and looking at the big picture:

There are worlds separating Johan from Bedard and Haren.

Johan is a proven stud, the premiere pitcher of his generation. I liken him to when Pedro was available in ‘97.

Then there’s Bedard. What do we Met fans really know about this canuck? He’s had a pretty good 2 year run. But they weren’t dominant. Could he turn into a Mike Hampton?

Haren – He’s had a decent run with a dominant half season. Is he a legit ace or just a carbon copy of John Maine (which might not be that bad)?

Let’s not fool ourselves, the quality falls dramatically from Johan to these other two pitchers. Yet, we think they’re equals because of the contract situations for Bedard & Haren.

Just remember, barring injury, there’s a 99% chance that Johan will dominate. With Haren & Bedard, there exists no such guarantee. They can continue to progress or they can regress to slightly above .500 pitchers.

I know, Johan deal is dead. But, just don’t expect Johan-type domination from these two guys.

christian warrior December 4, 2007 at 12:58 pm

If John Maine is a carbon copy of Dan Haren, then I absolutely demand that Omar Minaya officially announce that Maine is on the trading block.

Juuu know what I'm Sayin? December 4, 2007 at 1:00 pm

Haren is much better than Maine, and I love John Maine!

Achilles400 December 4, 2007 at 1:02 pm

I live in SF and wathc the A’s, Haren and Maine are not in the same league (figuratively and literally) Haren has dominant stuff and tremendous control. Maine is a question mark every time he starts.

kevin2elster21 December 4, 2007 at 4:27 pm

Maine is shaky. You never feel like he’s going to go out there and win.

But when I saw Haren in the AS game, he wasn’t much better.

Elliot Kathreptis December 4, 2007 at 12:57 pm

I’m comfortable with the Mets trading any prospect other than Fernando Martinez. Gomez may end up being very good, but after watching him endlessly last year it seems that it will take him another 2-4 years to acquire any sort of plate discipline. As usual though, I think we’re going to end up w a 2/3 ties starter—Livan, Cabrera, Colon, etc.

Also, if we package Church I would LOVE to see Rowand in a Mets uniform…decent bat, plays hard, great fielder/teammate…we need some griddiness on this team!

firemetmanagement December 4, 2007 at 12:58 pm

I just wrote the following letter (below) to Sweeny Murti…I just had to say something to him and thought this whole Bedard thing was/is kind of irresponsible on his part…especially given the fact that he didn’t address the report/clear things up on his blog today:

I think I m ay call WFAN tonight and call him out (gently) because frankly I think he should be taking a little more heat, as a lot of outlets reported his false report…and there seems to have been nothing to it and the Mets were not/are not close to anything.

Dear Sweeny,

I was reading your blog on the WFAN website this morning, and was
surprised that you did not write anything to address what you said
yesterday about how you reported that the Mets might be “close” on
Erik Bedard. Your report last night set off a firestorm, and it seems
that what you said ended up being completely false. That being said,
I was surprised that you did not mention anything about this on your
blog. I am not saying that the fact that the story ended up being
false is any kind of indictment on you- as you know, the rumors are
pretty crazy and reporters are not always 100 % correct and a lot of
info gets misconstrued- and fact is I have always enjoyed your
reporting and think you do a great job. And I’m not saying you should
have “apologized” on your site or anything like that- but perhaps you
could have reiterated what exactly it was that you heard, and at least
“addressed” your report from last night on your blog. It seems there
are a number of teams interested in Bedard and that the Mets are not
in fact close, contrary to your report last night. Your report was
and still is all over the internet. For example, Rotoworld.com, a
very dependable fantasy sports/sports info source, actually posted it
last night (they referenced Metsblog.com, also dependable, which
referenced your report on WFAN) and Rotworld.com still (as of 12:45 PM
eastern) indicates on its website that the Mets are “close” to Bedard,
as per your report last night. It also mentions something about
Tejada being included, and I’m not sure if you mentioned him or
not…anyway, here is the link, and as you can see it still lists the
Mets as being “close” as per your report:

http://www.rotoworld.com/content/HeadLines.aspx?sport=MLB&hl=226977

This all being said..have you heard anything more about Bedard to the
Mets, what players might be included, and if in fact you are still
hearing that it’s “close?” I had heard that the deal might include
Humber, Gomez, Heilman, and Mulvey. Would you characterize the Mets
as having a better than 50% shot at Bedard at this point, and do you
expect him to be moved by week’s end? Just wondering what you’ve
heard as of Tuesday here.

Anyway, thanks for taking a few minutes to read this Sweeny, and enjoy
the Winter Meeting hoopla.

Regards,

Juuu know what I'm Sayin? December 4, 2007 at 12:58 pm

Woa, calm down with the bold there. I thought it was Matt with late-braking news initially.

Juu know what I’m saying?

Juuu know what I'm Sayin? December 4, 2007 at 12:59 pm

Sweeny just wanted to ruin Mets’ fans, that’s all. I think he lied about that rumor.

GravediggerHebner December 4, 2007 at 1:03 pm

sour grapes since he’s not getting the Met radio gig?

kevin2elster21 December 4, 2007 at 1:01 pm

haha sorry sorry.

kevin2elster21 December 4, 2007 at 1:02 pm

You gotta question the integrity of anyone affiliated with the Evil Empire.

So what happened to that deadline of theirs?

Juuu know what I'm Sayin? December 4, 2007 at 1:04 pm

Hank Steinbrenner is a blatant liar.

“We won’t sign AROD if he opts out”

Yea, I heard about that on WFAN…well Omar can bring Maine in a dress when he meets with Billy Beane….

Steve In Tampa December 4, 2007 at 1:17 pm

I do recognize that the A’s Billy Beane is not the admitted gay ballplayer….

GravediggerHebner December 4, 2007 at 1:13 pm

it’s always the one you least suspect

gipper913 December 4, 2007 at 1:12 pm

Get R Done, Omar!

TheLiability December 4, 2007 at 1:18 pm

Go get a fireballing inning eater in Cabrera and keep Livan off the team…. Maybe Estrada and Humber… then they can flip Hernandez to another team that needs a cathcer

therealsince86 December 4, 2007 at 1:35 pm

Bedard, Hernandez, Bradford, and Huff for Gomez, Heilman, Pelfrey, Schneider/Estrada and Smith. We take a ton on a salary dump and O’s still get a ton of potential.
Huff and Church split RF while giving Alou and Delgado time off. Bradford takes Heilman’s spot and Hernandez is the starting catcher.

1-18-31-7 December 4, 2007 at 1:38 pm

huff, church, endy — too many lefties

therealsince86 December 4, 2007 at 1:44 pm

Details, Details. I forgot he was a LH. He hit LHP really well last year, though :)
I am sure if we would take Mora that would get it done.

ugbmets21 December 4, 2007 at 1:41 pm

is this true about maine?????? or is this a joke they are playing?

firemetmanagement December 4, 2007 at 2:07 pm

The trolls who called me out (above) should instead thank me for calling out Sweeny for his irresponsible journalism and false reporting.
