I just read this from rotoworld:

WFAN is reporting on a possible trade of Erik Bedard to the Dodgers for Matt Kemp and Jonathan Broxton.

ESPN is reporting that the two sides are close. It's a fair return, though we wouldn't be surprised to see the Orioles hold out for a fairly valuable third piece. Broxton would close in Baltimore, while Kemp would be an option both in center and left.

If that is true. Well forgot Ace pitcher. I guess Omar is going to Plan F. Poor moves, then again what did we expect. Others teams haVE BETTER Talents (Prospects)

I like it. Heilman to the rotation , sign Dotel as insurance for the injured Dirty Sanchez, Sign Silva and Move Duque to the pen and you are done.

Rotation of Pedro, Maine OP Heilman and Silva,
Pen of Wagner, Dotel Sanchez Feliciano Smith, Shoe and Duque

Plus all the chips around to mature into either roses or manure (Pelfrey, Humber, Mulvey, Guerra, Fmart, Gomez, etc)

Plus 3 picks in the top 36 this year!

Forget all these convoluted 3 way deals.

These GMs seem incapable of making a simple trade (or even deciding if a guy is available), so how the heck cold they process a 13 player, 3 way extravaganza?

Just get somebody to fill in the open spot. At this point, grab Silva, and work on the pen.

pedro
Maine
Perez
Duque

They are pretty much set, and if Pedro pitches like he did in December, should be solid to pretty darned good (and better than a lot of teams have, including the Phils)

So, they need 1 guy. Choices are:

-Ace (bedard? Johan?
-solid 2/3 with upside (Snell type) - Haren, to me, is here. Blanton too
- mediocre 5 starter (aka "innings eater") - SIlva being the best FA, or can trade
- The cheap way, just run out Pelfrey and see what happens.

So that is adding a 1, 2, 3 or 5.

Even adding Silva, while not giving the rotation of the ages, will be potentially just fine, and should keep the bullpen from falling apart.

Pelfrey would be the understudy for Duque's vacation.

If 2 guys go down, then you scramble a bit, but everyone would have that problem

If the 2/3 guy costs as much as the #1, it seems kind of pointless.

And the best thing about a silva is, it preserves the prospects for other uses (on the Mets, or future trades), and it creates depth, with Pelfrey as #5.

Oh, even better than SIlva (even though it makes a hole in the pen) is Heilman. Heilman is a much better pitcher than Silva, and I would bet a lot that if you stuck them both in the rotation, that Heilman would significantly out perform Silva.

Free Aaron Heilman!

Bedard and Lowry would be sweet and worth a big package. If healthy then the mets would have four young and good pitchers for the next few years. And they will have kept Martinez.

But for Bedard and Lowry? i think that might be enough. Maybe put Collazo in place of Mulvey?

Well, I'm assuming the "player(s) to be named" would include a Giants guy or two.

Gomez, Church and the Mets' top three pitching prospects for Bedard? That's too much.

Humber and Pelfrey are not that young. One or both of them could pan out for the Mets as soon as this season. If they are really so lightly regarded then I would keep them. With Maine, Pedro and Perez I dont see why the Mets cant try one of them as the fifth starter and and still have the chips to add a good starter.
