News: Mets Scout Honored

by Jordan Zakarin on December 4th, 2007 at 1:43 am

The Mets have announced that Sandy Johnson, the Mets senior vice president of scouting, will be honored Wednesday with the 2007 Director’s Award at the Scout of the Year award ceremonies in Nashville.

Johnson will receive the award in honor of his ‘countless contributions to the scouting industry and the sport of baseball.’

In 1984, while serving as an assistant general manager with the Rangers, Johnson hired a young Omar Minaya as a scout.

Minaya returned the favor in 2005 with the Mets when he brought in Johnson, who had been a fixture in big-league front offices since 1969.

Johnson has worked for the Seattle Pilots, Milwaukee Brewers, Major League Scouting Bureau, Padres, Rangers and Diamondbacks, in addition to the Mets.
