when saying stiffs Crisp & Lowrie... a 4th OF and a utility IF...
Sure Lester & Masterson are better then what we offered in Pelfrey & Humber but the other 2 have no real upside inless you buy the Bosox HYPE...

As per the other great Bosox prospect Lowrie "National League scout who watched Jed Lowrie in the Arizona Fall League, and he was very negative about Lowrie’s defense, using the words “hard hands.” The scout said there’s “not a snowball’s chance” Lowrie plays shortstop in the big leagues."

so our offer is not so bad, compared with certain stiffs the Bosox are pushing on them...

Ok, people Crisp aint good but he aint a BUM. He's an exceptional defensive CF and hes an OK hitter. And Lester is a very good prospect with extremely high potential. Yes, the other 2 prospects are being overlooked, so it is a solid little package. But, ultimately, it's still robbery. If the Sox can get Santana without giivng up Ellsbury, it's a flat out steal. Epstein has become one of the best GM's out there in a tough city. Sox are already the class of baseball...this would make them ridiculous-almost too good.
With that being said the Sox are ganna have to pay a ton for this guy and will have a hefty payroll...but they still have a core group of guys who aren't making anything...Pedroia, YOOUK, Ellsbury, Papelbon, Okajima, Buchholz...they have a fantastic group of young guys plus the huge veterans. Yanks can not afford to let this happen and the Twins should hold off and wait for more if they know whats best for them.
Lets be honest here-the Mets are done in this deal. They have nothing to give. Forget about Santana, pretty much forget about Haren, and Bedard is a long shot. Mets are in some trouble.

If I were the Twins, I'd still ask for Lester/Buchholz and Ellsbury in the deal... to hell with demands and deadlines!! Not only that, if the Twins elect not to pull the trigger, they still have between now and before the 2008 season starts to deal Santana. The Redsox and Yankees are NOBODY to enforce "deadlines" and make ultimatums to force the Twins into a corner.

Isn't the whole logic behind Minnesota's thinking is to get young and cheap with high-end major league ready players? You cannot tell me that Coco Crisp is going to replace whatever Hunter produced because HE'S NOT! Here are his stats from the last two seasons:

2007 Season:
526 AB / 6 HR / 60 RBI / 84 SO / 28 SB
.330 OBP / .382 SLG / .268BA

2006 Season:
413 AB / 8 HR / 36 RBI / 67 SO / 22 SB
.317 OBP / .385 SLG / .264 BA

How about the Mets build a package that involves Gomez, Pelfrey, Niese, Parnell and cash for Santana?

Whoever the two minor leaguers the Redsox are offering, I am almost certain the Mets have players that match them statistically as well as long term potential. Say the Twins like the package, they can then turn around and deal Nathan for additional arms and a major league ready bat.

Beckett led them to a world series, in which Lowell was the MVP...No matter what happens with Hanley and whatshisface, its a win for Boston...could be a win for Florida too.

Don't forget that little pesky variable called injuries. It's nature's way of leveling the playing field, somewhat.
