Recap: Heyman likes Dodgers for Bedard
During his spot with WFAN, SI.com’s Jon Heyman says the O’s have requested at least Matt Kemp, James Loney or Andy LaRoche plus
Jonathan Broxton, in exchange for Erik Bedard.
According to Heyman, though, O’s VP Andy MacPhail is, ‘methodical,’ and ‘will not jump in to things quickly.’
Nevertheless, Heyman says the Mets have told MacPhail they will do whatever is necessary to acquire Bedard, short of trading David Wright and Jose Reyes.
The problem, as Heyman sees it, is that the Mets, as well as other teams, are unable to compete with the Dodgers, who have the best collection of prospects in baseball. Especially since the Mets are shopping minor leaguers, notes Heyman, while other teams are shopping young players who have proven themselves at the major-league level, such as Kemp, who most people believe could be another Dave Winfield.
To listen to Heyman’s entire interview, during which he also discusses Anaheim’s pursuit of Miguel Cabrera; the state of Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain, who he believes are untouchable; talks between the Red Sox, Yankees and Twins regarding Johan Santana; and the market for Dan Haren, who could get moved in ‘two days, two weeks or two months,’ go to WFAN.com.
