What version of Heilman and Pelfrey have you been watching? best set up man? Pelfrey has a lethal breaking ball and nasty slider. Dude, get a grip, his breaking stuff may be the worst in the league.

I need to put a block on Metsblog as my IQ steadily drops every time I come in here.

so you'd rather have a pitcher who is 22-27 with a 4.49 ERA with 306 K's over the past 2 seasons than a pitcher who is 34-19 with a 3.04 ERA with 480 K's over the same 2 seasons? That makes sense...

We get Pudge and Dontrelle and Pudge's contract because the Tigers want to dump his salary. So we give them back a pitcher and catcher for a pitcher and a catcher.

How in the world does Schneider and Pelfrey get Willis and Rodriguez?

And why trade Perez, Heilman and Gotay for Santana?

Perez could easily be just as good as Santana. He was in 2004, and was certainly great this year, aside from fielding and reacting off of 2 out errors...

Matt:

Do you know how set the Mariners are to trade Clement?

He definitely has more value to them than any other team...

And compare these offers:

Fernando Martinez, Aaron Heilman, Mike Pelfrey for Erik Bedard
Jeff Clement, Brandon Morrow, Adam Jones for Erik Bedard.

Background info:

Jeff Clement would be an interesting acquisition for the O's. An MLB ready catcher who hits for power. #47 on Baseball American's top prospect list, hit 20 HRs with a .275 average last year. However, they already have a catcher about a year away in Matt Wieters. Someone who has more value to them than any other team.

Brandon Morrow was a college pitcher who moved up the system in a year to become a reliever. Many consider him anywhere from Kevin Mulvey to Ian Kennedy. Worked entirely from the Mariners bullpen and posted a 4.12 ERA in 63 innings, striking out 66 batters and walking 50.

Adam Jones could be the best of the Mariners' bunch. He has been nothing short of amazing in his 4 years in the Mariners system. A guy who hits for pop and average in the minors, but has shown less promising major league stints than Carlos Gomez or Lastings Milledge in their first years. 21 years old and on their roster as a starter.

Fernando Martinez seems to only get more hyped no matter how his performance is. The youngest by 1 year in AA, and with Clayton Kershaw probably moving on, Martinez may still be the youngest guy in AA. He didn't do bad or well in AA, posting .271/.336/.377. Although very young, he has posted the same average and OBP in single-A and double-A, and is #17 on Baseball America's top prospect list. Is expected to be like Matt Kemp without all the stolen bags. His inclusion may be key. While the O's have no problems with catching prospects, they may want a good power hitting corner outfield to couple with Nick Markakis.

Aaron Heilman is a great setup man, who still has the potential to be a starter. It's a long shot, however. He throws low to mid 90s, has great movement and an amazing changeup. He had a slider in college. He has consistantly been good from the bullpen and will probably continue on this path. Like a successful Brandon Morrow, if you will.

Mike Pelfrey is the most intriguing of all of the prospects here. His fastball ranges from 90-97 MPH with spectacular movement. He has a lethal, 83 MPH breaking ball, a nasty slider, and a beautiful sinking slider in the mid 80s. He had success this September, but that's about it. His control needs work, and he still allows more hits than the average pitcher, but nonetheless his stuff is great, the guy is big and many believe that this could be his year.
