Buzz: Jays and Giants talk Rios for Pitching

by Jordan Zakarin on December 5th, 2007 at 2:27 am

The Blue Jays are looking to move OF Alex Rios for pitching, and have set their sights on Giants RHP Matt Cain and Tim Lincecum, the San Francisco Chronicle repors.

According to the report, the Giants and Blue Jays met on Tuesday.

The Jays prefer Cain, who went 7-16, but had a 3.65 ERA and held opposing hitters to a .235 batting average against, says the Chronicle, since he is viewed as more ‘proven’ than Lincecum and less of an injury risk.

Later in the day, Giants GM Brian Sabean told MLB.com that he is not yet ready to trade Lincecum, despite having an ‘interesting proposal’ on the table.

The Jays had been shopping Rios to Baltimore in a deal for Erik Bedard, as well, according to MLB.com’s Seth Everett during an appearance on SNY’s Daily News Live.
