Milledge's stats for 2007...
BA : .272 OBP: .341 SLG: .446 OPS: .787
Seems like Milledge had a solid year in my opinion. And this was all the while with inconsistent playing time, knowing that every AB would factor into whether he would get playing time the next day. Give a full time starter role, one would expect him to improve. He is also only 22 years old... And RBI has more to do with where you are in the lineup. With runners in scoring position last year Milledge hit .305 with an .835 OPS, yet only had 29 RBI. This was because he mainly hit #8 in the order and only got 184 AB. When you are comparing players you can't choose to only look at certain statistics. Of course when you highlight what Kemp and Jackson did well and what Milledge did poorly, he will look a lot worse.

Now, I will say that Kemp and Jackson did out perform Milledge with the bat, but that is not to say that Milledge had a bad year. He still did well, just not as well as those two. While he may not have been as good as Jackson or Kemp, he still seems to be like an established, young, hitter that a team can control for many years

Let's see, Kemp hit .342 in his first go round in the bigs with 27 xbhits. Jackson hit .284 with 60 rbis in 400 ABs with an OPS of .835, 50 Ks 50BBs. Millz, 42 Ks in 184 ABs, 13 BBs, 17 xbhits. Maybe that is why?

Well, the part about his agent telling him it's best to stay put does.

Johan could work out a deal for an extension with the team that Minnesota wants to make a deal with, or he could look at whatever trade the Twins come to him with, veto it, and sign for a sinful amount of money from whatever team he wishes.

Which sounds more realistic to you?

cerrone writes that teams are looking for a proven young hitter who they can control.. Can anyone tell me how milledge does not fit this role? He put up good stats as in 2007 and I can't repeat that enough. I wish there was a legitimate reason Milledge fell off as a prospect. Because on the field he performed well and showed a lot of potential

Because he's a sweet prospect, some rank him #2 behind FMart. I think Omar would only deal him if it meant less quantity. Plus, he's like 18 and 19 and too raw, so teams may not want that.

I believe Teixiera will be available as Bora$ is his agent and will strongly encourage him to try free agency - ESPECIALLY with both the Mets and Yankees in need of a first baseman. If the Braves end up in third again, you can take it to the bank that Tex will be gone.

If Santana is not traded this offseason, he will most definitely be a FA next offseason (as he stated he would veto and trade during the regular season).

I really don't care if the Mets spend gazillions on these guys next year, it's more the length of the contracts that will concern me. I'm sure Bora$ will insist on a 10 year deal for Tex (he'll end up getting 7, but I'd rather no more than 5). And Santana will probably be looking for at least 5. Risky moves in that regard.

July 25th, 2008:

Twins GM:

"So Johan, we are currently 11 games behind the Tigers and 8 games back in the WC. You have been pitching great, but I don't think we are going to close the gap this season. There are offers on the table from the Yankees, Red Sox, Mets, and Angels...who are all contenders and looking for that one chip to guarantee them a WS appearance. How would you like to have that ring before you 30th birthday next March?

Johan:
"No thank you. I like it here in Minn. Besides, I love watching the playoffs from my recliner. And my Agent thinks it's best for me to stay put."

Now does that sound realistic?

I don't know if Heilman would be able to fill Maine's shoes as a starter. I mean, I guess net-net it would benefit the rotation, but I'd miss ol' Johnny Maine.
