Because if you do then you still have a hole in your starting rotation. Maine is too good to trade. I have no problem trading Humber, Pelfrey and Gomez or Martinez for Santana. But the Mets need to keep Pedro, Maine, OP. To me that is a no brainer. You cannot trade a “definite” starter that can win you fifteen game for another starter no matter how good he is. If we don't make a trade, you may see Pelfrey (who will have a good year), Humber, Mulvey, FMary, Gomez and Guerra all progress... So, we could have some nice chips come mid-year or next.
